Timing chain or geardrive

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hotrod40coupe, Dec 4, 2012.

  1. Maybe you were on the wrong corner brother. :D

  2. Nothing else says "Hey look at me Im cool" like a gear drive .... I hate them but, of course I am not cool.

  3. I'm going to send you a funny story, probably not suitable for the general public. ;)

  4. How do you know it's saying "Hey look at me I'm cool" and not "Hey listen to that car, it must have some serious issues" or "Hey look at me I'm acting like real blower car coming down the road". ;)

  5. You could always put one of these under your hood. At least this won't hurt your engine.

Very few can stand the noise for long on a street driver. I have bought several nice looking built up streetcars that have gear drives. Bought them cheap. The first thing I do is remove the gear drive and install a timing chain set up. The cars instantly increase in value and I turn them for a decent profit.

  7. As I have already mentioned they do make quiet gear drives.

I have discovere that things change with time. I don't mind if someone else's car makes a lot of noise I do think that it should have the meat to back it up if it does. When I was a young man I wanted everyone to know that I was comming, now I prefer a low rumble.

While I don't have a deuce coupe, I do like the idea that the beach boys put across, " my little deuce coupe, you don't know what I got. . ."

But to each his own. I think that things should be modified to enhance performance but some don't feel that way at all.

One ofthe major car mags did a test on chain vs gear drive couple ofyears ago, a lot of power was lost with gear drive. I look at them as noise genrators with less benefit than gain. If you want the noise. OK. Much better chain technology since gear drives were first put into use. Go with a quality double roller
