i lined up the "dots" on the cam and crank sprockets and have the #1 piston at it's top point. question - is this the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke. i heard #6 would be on the comp. stroke and #1 would be on the exhaust stroke. loud loud loud backfire through the carb. i'm ***uming i'm 180 deg. off.
    any thoughts???

  4. Piston up ?
Your dots can be crank 12 and cam 6 ( best way) or crank 12 and cam 12 .

    OK cam timing set. Check

    Adjust your valves . Check

Rotate crank with your finger on #1.
Feel for compressions look at timing mark , rotate to Tdc. Check

Have you got that far correctly ?
