Drawing a blank on who painted this, but I basically borrowed the lick that runs from the roof down to the trunk
Even Von Dutch didn't bother doing both sides exactly the same. Sometimes only a hint of similarity. You can only see one side at a time unless you are too picky and start looking for imperfection. That if different from looking for perfection. I amazed myself with how close the flames came out on my '53. I started with thin masking tape on one side and when I liked it I did a rubbing on butcher paper and transferred it it to the other side. Vincent Black Shadow: The first on I saw was being worked on in a motorcycle shop/junk yard while looking for parts fo my '49 Indian. It was so beautiful that I just sat down and looked at it. "No basements down here." I never could figure that out. In a place where a cellar might come in handy. We had one but the original part of the house was a sod shanty over a root cellar. "I think I remember Sixball mentioned being an Artist too..." Well I got a degree if fine arts but they couldn't teach me how to be an artist, I know what art is when I see it. My son used to do some striping. By the time he left here there wasn't a surface left unmolested. He's pretty good but more into blacksmithing & making Damascus right now.
Well, tried to hang the front clip today and it just felt sketchy. On a look into a couple different hardware ideas and see where I’m at next weekend. In the mean time my hoodlum cohorts have been busy so I’ll share there stuff first up @Austin kays has been body working the coupe with the new motor at the machine shop when what should blow in….
Next @BigJoeArt started in on his project. Narrowed and dropped the front suspension. It’ll get chrome to show off behind those spindle mounts. decided it needed to be lower but not dragging suspension so he channeled it 3 or 4 inches I believe at a rake. Rear is getting narrowed axles and the inner fenders cut to tuck those fat tires on 5 spokes under stock fenders
Next up Frank - forget his user name- sent by Jimmy’s to get something and fell in love with this! It’s a 31 slant window 4 door model A with coupe quarters and a heck of a chop! Jimmy saw the vision and just had to do it and Frank just had to have it! Getting mocked and and built now it’s chopped pretty good with a little extra lean added to the pillars. The pushed forward 4 door roof has a different shape than a normal model A. Over all the back feels a lot more 32 and the quarter windows a little mopar. 100% bitchen though.
And Jimmy? Well with the coupe gone this shows up! whats left of an old hot rod! Shortened around 6 inches total, bobbed and every thing leaded shut it wasn’t long before… he’s keeping it all pre… 50? I think. Every time I see updates it’s like a how to straight from the little books. This things got the vibe for sure.
Any how that’s some stuff going on even if I still feel like I haven’t made any progress to report lol here is a rendering that’s kinda where I’m trying to head though. I’m a visual person lol
Yeah it’s been a lot nicer than I’d expected it to be for keeping them out of the way but easily accessible.
Well, normally for my birthday I get the 46 out in the snowy driveway to warm up and take a photo…. But it’s 71 degrees and climbing…. So no snow lol. So I pushed the A out to the street and followed up with the 46. First time the A has ever been on a street and the first time the 46 and A have been outside at the same time! had my wife hop in to steer as I pushed it back into the garage and as soon as I pushed I lose both headlight bulbs, both managing to hit me in the way down lol. No Damage to me or the bulbs thankfully haha. does looks sad though. I’ll have to sneak out there and stick the bulbs back in
It looks like it is looking for something on the floor in front of it. Put the bulbs down there and take another picture. Or maybe it saw a mouse. Happy birthday!
Popped them back in before I had a chance but I’m sure I’ll have opportunities again. They aren’t bolted in at all
I’ve done nothing more than push the car over to do brakes on one of the dailies. getting a little bit done on getting the garage up to par and working but more or less kinda worn out by the time I find a nugget of time to work on anything in the garage. Just day dreaming builds to stuff that olds into. did get the new alternator on the 46 and cruise it around the neighborhood on a warm week between snowy weeks. Dodging salt piles I got it warm enough to open the thermostats before I parked it. Seems to be charging just fine though the belt could stand to be a hair tighter. Plan for now is picking away at the shop itself in hopes that when it’s warmer I’ll have some energy to do something in there.
Nobody likes an update with out photos right? not the car but at least it’s close to it lol got more peg board and shelves up, the parts bin up and started to fill it. 6 tubs of garage moving laid all over the floor. I’m trying to have the garage more or less operational by March 1st it’s been so long since I’ve messed with the car I’m starting to forget where I’m even at on it. Thinking maybe I’ll we read my own thread to refresh myself lol @J.Ukrop teased us with some new photos on his thread so that’s got me feeling a little more into messing with the car again. spring can’t come soon enough. Got some neat stuff in store
Progress in the shop is progress on the car! I have most of a day free tomorrow I going to do something. You inspired me!
No romantic prose of finding gold in a dusty junk store basement like @J.Ukrop but that’s exactly what I did. I mean for $2.50 and $3.50 how could I not buy them? Chassis book is way better than expected and just chock full of good info. The others I haven’t even opened but figure the rest of my Model A restoration materials generally have a diagram, a photo, or instructions that come in handy when trying to make a pile of parts a car. and with my new home so close to work I could feasible daily a totally stock model A. So, ya know just in case I should probably buy the book. Not at all because I love hoarding books or anything….
These books are always chock full of good, Sometimes humorous, stuff. But what I really love is finding the paper trail of who owned them before me. most of the time they are well used books. Something they held onto, with a name and number maybe even an address in the front cover. or like these littered with notes and a book marks. I can tell the same person owned all three, and the scraps inside them date from the early 70’s to around 2013. Think they got their use out of it for sure!
Well dadgum, I don’t even own the books and already learned something valuable from them…like how the air ventilates through the dash garnish. I really like those body diagrams too!
