Well after to much effort I decided the extra front clip was going in the shed not the ceiling was a bit of a battle but got it sorted. I think. got the 46 on the road for the spring, I hope. Plan is to have it in tip too shape for the gathering at the roc in October. Random shot of the shelves with model A parts, I’ve got stuff kinda divided and sorted for the 46 and A into “extra stuff, stuff that goes in later, stuff that goes in next” in different spots around the shop lots of floor I haven’t seen in a while showing up! not mad at that view Thinking I’ll get back into it sooner than later now that I see I have room to pull the body off the chassis with out a juggling act.
Looks good! Thanks for the inspiration! It is good to see how someone else tackles the same challenges. One of my pegboard goals is to get some of the roadster parts into view hoping that seeing them every day will be helpful in spurring me on. The stance of the A is perfect!
Thanks @Six Ball i think the stance looks better in person but I’ve yet to find the perfect angle to try to capture it in a picture. Apparently the jist is there enough though mans good idea on hanging roadster stuff on the peg board. Visual cues and inspirations are a big part of getting stuff done for me. your making good ground keep it up!
Justin from the shop and I'll post a couple of crappy picture only thread. I hung some parts. No picture of your A will be as good as walking around it. A picture is worth a bunch of words but nothing compared to really being there.
What’s this! A post not about the garage?! spent the afternoon at a buddies and came home with new parts for the A! The missing e brake bits, a few rear brake clips. Some beautiful glass reflectors, drip rails, motor meter, wicked turn single and a load of finned aluminum! snazzy motor meter need to find the thread on re building/ wiring these but I’m extremely excited about this self canceling turn single unit. this finned section is, I believe to cover ports in banger over head valve conversions but will fit slick just under the plugs after I remove the coil and other trinkets that I’m either getting rid of or moving to under the dash. oh baby! This should look great together and spaced pretty similar really. the mercruiser will get removed/ covered with a breather. This is looking to shiney but I think I can scuff it up and get it right anyhow pretty excited get get moving forward
Good stuff! I had one of those self canceling turn signals on a '49 Chevy pickup. That is so cool! I am integrating some car stuff with the clean up. Mostly it has to do with using up old rattle can paint on parts or anything else that would look better painted.
Cool man glad to hear it! thinking the stock drip rails actually have two piece construction. This piece I have nails to the tack strip and holds the roof fabric down and then the actual gutter snaps over it. not sure if the aftermarket ones will snap to This. I have seen people use this to hold the material down and then put what amounts to fat welting over the tack strip area in Lou of a metal drip rail. Hide em I think it’s called? something to Google and stare at I guess lol
Those details can make a big difference in the overall look as well as function. It's a driver it has to work year round hopefully.
Yeah I’m pretty good at over thinking this all lol but it should be functional. I’d say we’ve got about 10 good driving months most of the time if you don’t mind a lot of rain in the spring
Any idea if there’s anything special about a rad cap for the moto meter? I’m assuming it’s just a normal rad cap with a hole added?
Wiring the rest of the lights I hung a while back and added a drop light because why not lol. always think the 28/9 look like a quilt with all the intersecting straight lines.
Yeah I’ve got most of them off most the time. The garage opener lights are on a motion sensor if I’m just in there looking for something.
Garage is looking awesome! When you say you have room to pull the body off the A without juggling....that means Sarah's car will still fit in the garage, too, right?
Yup I “could” park another car in here and still be able to pull the body off the chassis and have room. right now the plan for another car in the garage is a coupe
If I squint I can see it with a big olds instead of a hemi under those carbs. Got a spot just perfect for it to park in
Well I got one more big 2x4 foot shelf put up. Way up high and hauled everything up the ladder to stash it. Getting closer and revealing a lot of floor! won’t be long leaning on the work bench the A is this far away. Should be plenty of room to make it two pieces instead of one
Realized tonight that the bolt holes for the master cylinders on the firewall are off. I don’t know if either is level and they for sure aren’t level to each other. Just something that got missed when I couldn’t stand back and look at it I figure. The center hole is correct it’s just the bolt holes that need tweaked. when time comes I’ll pull the cowl and get it dead on and then drill threw. Hopefully not to many patches needed to get it right lol. really looking forward to getting back in this sometime this summer
Cleaning the garage again while you were out... Nice sketch Timm...holes are out, check twice drill once...been there done that......could you make a 1/4" thick plate with the correct pattern and use it as a shim in between the mc and firewall with either another plate inside or heavy washers leaving elongated holes in the firewall that are covered by the packers? ...or what you were suggesting would be pretty straightforward especially with the piece out...
Here's a small picture showing the hide-em strip the trimmer used on the A we built for my friend's kid.
Thanks rich! Stogy it’s the sketch from my very first post on this thread to show the jist of what I wanted to do
