It was just a drawing of what I had in my head at the time I started this all.

Im not totally sure what 2x4 shelves you’re thinking of?

I was thinking 2"x4"wood but I believe you were referencing the plastic 2'x4' shelving beside the car...now that I went back to that post...;)

How far off are they? Could you slot the holes in the MC? With all the holes you have drilled having only a couple off is pretty good. Or are you holding out about the others?

  5. I would just elongate the holes; put a couple bolts in one side and do the holes for the other; then bolt that master in place and do the other set of holes. With the pedal assy on the inside and master cylinder on the outside sandwiching the firewall; it should be good.

I’ll take better pictures when I get a minute. It’ll explain where I’m at better than my rambling lol.

I remember laying out 1 hole missing on AC Number 1 of a New Aircraft Project back ions ago...I went to the other side to measure and mark the hole as a measuring point and target...it was a tight area and couldn't be back drilled...so I come back around to the other side measured it from a couple locations, marked a crosshair and drilled away and as I'm drilling I start to think to myself its taking longer than I thought it should and drill till it comes through...and go around and my jaw dropped as I measured from the wrong direction somehow...check twice didn't matter at this point......I think I left for a walk in disgust with myself shaking my head and cussing my stupidity...it wasn't like it was my first rodeo there...

They had structural engineers a plenty there and this type of stuff was their specialty and they ended up plugging it with AD material...thank 'F'...I always feared the worst as depending on the 'F' Up you can scrap major components...I didn't even get written up as this was not to common for me...Lucky day for Stogy...Just imagine that fix is fully documented and will remain in the records till the last day that AC flies...30 years plus is not an uncommon lifespan fo these birds...

I also remember later in another Aviation related career post real deal Aircraft making flight Simulators working under the watch of an Engineer now my Boss from the former plant...and he was many times advising us to Un-Airplane ourselves as these weren't flying...so what he was saying is if the hole was a little off it was okay to make it fit by elongating or perhaps a little bigger...I still tried to get them right the first time but I'll never forget those days as it is hugely responsible for much of my mechanical integrity and know-how...

We look forward to the discrepant hole fix Timm...;)

Yeah it’s frustrating because the 3 flange holes are in correct relation to each other because I made a thick template and used a centering punch.

I think the bead on the firewall pushed it over a little and I thought boy howdy I cleared the bead!

    maybe I didn’t lol.

got the 46’ buttoned up this afternoon but havnt had time to swing it around the block and see if I really fixed anything yet. It’s still priority

It needed a wash anyway...that may have been tough to see out of that day...I don't mind the back forty but not on muddy days...

46’ is stealing my attention, I’m trying to figure out a plan for the cars this summer at the moment but my plan of drive the 46 and work on the A… which sounds awesome…. Has been shoved in the trash

  16. Plans are just ideas pointing us in the general direction.....they never go as plotted. Mine usually go the opposite direction all together. LOL Keep chipping away....you'll get there

My plans usually only get me to the spot where I make more plans. I quit chiseling them in stone a while back.

Yeah I’m probably staying out of the garage for a week or so. It’s been not a great week or two. I think I need some sitting by the pond time

@justabeater37 im trying to tell myself that it’ll cost the same to fix as the gas I would spend driving this summer so other than the down time, money wise it’s a wash.

I don’t believe me but I’m trying lol

Is the Trans the issue on the 46?

@n847 yup, as far as I can tell the vacuum modulator failed and fried the forward gear clutches. Only reason the road trip to the swap meet happened is I had the kick down adjusted so wrong it was basically forcing it stay in second and grip

waiting to hear back on a quote as tearing into a th350 isn’t on my list of things I feel great about.

the hood, toe boards, radiator, engine and trans all need to come out to even do the most minor work to the trans. That stock X member swallows the majority of the trans.

so I’m really not wanting to risk doing it myself and have to take it all back apart soon after.

@Austin kays and I are talking and I think if it’s going to be off the road all summer while I raise the money and it’s gotta come all the way apart we are going to tear the motor down and do rings, bearings, oil pump etc. I really don’t like taking this car apart so I’m aiming to do it once this decade.

that’ll give me 100% solid fresh drive train going into year 12 of driving the car. Hopefully I’ll get a bunch of small projects done at the same time.

haven’t given up hope on the roc but it’s not feeling super hopeful

Oh, and I some how got the front shocks to bottom out hard enough enough times that I’ve ripped one back off again.

so…. Front shock mounts version… 3? 4? Coming up as well.

it’s kinda turning into a big project

Bummer. I'll be interested to hear the cost on your rebuild. Maybe you can get lucky & score a whole other trans for the same money. I see good condition working transmissions pop up from time to time for a dance but never when ya need one.

I feel like with all the work getting it out I want to have a rebuilt one going back in so I don’t do this again in two months or I’d gamble on a “runner”

most retailers don’t seem to have the “base price” trans on hand. Speedways cheapest comes in at around $1400 and won’t be available until at least the end of September. I’ll shoot you a text

Did you check Summit? It's been a year or so but I had a guy rebuild the 700R4 in my Suburban. I supplied all the best parts using my son's O'Reilly discount. It still cost as much as one from Summit
and took longer. Now the throttle valve is stuck & no warranty. Summit has way more stuff than what is in their catalog.

Blowing the 46 apart. Going back together with a fresh trans, engine and a Louvered hood. Hopefully getting into a heavy garage time
Routine Carrie’s over and I get this thing buttoned up and keep trucking on the A after 491D801B-219C-4C6B-9F62-4BA5011500DB.jpeg
