I'm sure they want the product out soon and are excited to share it. It's fine if it takes months, but I much prefer companies that are honest. Don't tell me it will be any minute when it has been weeks with crickets. No updates on social media, no ETA, just nothing. I'm starting to think about planning to go elsewhere, but I'm still hopeful they'll come through.

Just kind of a bad way to run a business if you're trying to inspire consumer confidence.

I'm acquiring parts for mine, but I know their stuff doesn't always stay in stock. So I'm waiting to order other stuff because I don't want to miss out on the spring I need.

Looks like we both got reply’s this morning on the status of the leafs. As far as your question of spring hanger measurements I’m gonna say 46.5”

they are basically trying to fill the gap the “existing” never in stock posies spring left with the same measurements, as mostly confirmed by postings. See below IMG_2530.jpeg couple that with this Pete and jakes sheet that directly references that spring IMG_2543.jpeg i would say it’s safe to assume 46-46.5

Random Studebaker starter information I’m adding to the hamb lol IMG_2546.jpeg studebsker v8 starters take a very specific bolt that looks like a bolt with a long shank but is actually a “dowel bolt” where the smoooth shank area is actually bigger than the threads and fits snug into the holes of the starter.

on studebakers this helps align the starter to where it needs to mesh. If you use a normal bolt
You can shim it with anything from a very thin bushing to some metal flashing.

however! IMG_2547.jpeg it would appear that this ridge should align the starter in the hole in the bellhousing. I’ve heard it mentioned that early Stude starters were like this. I couldn’t be sure if they ment early v8 or earlier than that until I had it in hand.

I cleaned out around the flywheel enough that I should be able to bolt this on but it’s so tight to reach it and this thing weighs so much that I need to wait until I have more time to put into the effort or the motor is back out because I’m
Sure with it on I’m gonna hit more stuff trying to pull the motor.

im to curious to not know so I’ll probably fight it on and then remove it when it’s time it comes out

The snugger you can fit it the better. I don't remember anything about special bolts and we had no problems but less movement will aid alignment. At least you have a starter in hand now and can actually see what it needs.

Yeah, sounds like it's a supplier issue and the numbers you provided look accurate. Thanks for that info. Almost seems like I might need posies ultra narrow one or to go with another option. I'll have to find my axle mounts and remeasure. I've got a 2WD S10 rear axle so my space is limited.

Something I noticed when measuring is that if I used the super narrow posies or even a speedway super narrow, the spring perches would hit or nearly hit my frame being that far inboard.

For now the plan is wait on mill works and buy a main, plan B is speedway brand 1/4 eliptics.

@Six Ball yeah these bolts fit but could be just a teeny bit tighter in the bore.

here’s some screen shot bolt info IMG_2446.png IMG_2444.png

I think Studebaker places sell the bolts but at $10-$20 I’ll figure it out

I used the wrong starter bolts on a 350 Chevy the ones with the knurled shank the goes into the enlarged hole in the block. It went in too far and cracked the block around the hole. That car has been sitting in the yard for a few years now. It was a good engine.

@05snopro440 looks like the shipment showed up and the supplier sent them all normal width springs instead of half narrow half normal. Didn’t know if you’d see the update.

@05snopro440 they have the narrowed springs in stock! Doesn’t look like they are on the website just yet.

Dropped the starter off with the rebuilder, just for piece of mind. Figure it’s cheap insurance. Should have in back shortly :) one more thing I can check off the list

He also said with this one in hand he could easily make me another out of existing inventory. Said most of it was the same parts as the tractor starters he builds. Which is kinda what I figured but you can’t copy something you don’t have.

    success either way :)

  23. Yes, three thumbs up for Summit Electric. Uh, I may have overcounted. It's funny you should mention tractor starters. I thought your starter looked familiar. It looks just like the starter on my Massey Ferguson 50, which I need to take in to Summit Electric to go over (got a dead spot on it). They did the generator on the MF50 a year ago.

Yeah when I started looking up bits and pieces to try and find something that would work the closest stuff was always a tractor lol.

The starter in my John Deere 420C (crawler) was the same as my '40 International 3 ton truck. That actually got me home from central Nevada once when I was hauling the dozer and the starter went out in the truck.

Called the Kansas City spring shop and they said they no longer run their furnace so they can’t help me and recommended atlas in witchita like @osage orange

though they also said called before hand because a lot of shops are shutting down that part of the operation because it’s just to exspensive to keep the heat on.

Find a local blacksmith. They will have the heat and the ability.

I just measured my rear end again, the Old Yankee/Millworks spring won't work after all. Back to the drawing board...
