Technical Tintable Rust Coat Enamel Tip Alternative to Tremclad/Rustoleum

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by anothercarguy, Jul 28, 2022.

  1. A friend put me onto this and I thought I should share on the HAMB. I was discussing the limitation of color choices for Tremclad (Canadian) and Rustolem rust paints. He said that I should look into Beau***one Rust Coat available at Home Hardware Stores as they will tint to suit or match. I took a sample painted part into the Home Hardware Store, they did a color scan, added tint to their Beau***one Rust Coat base and bingo...a perfect match. I plan on using this product as a touch up for some ch***is modifications I'm making to a previously painted ch***is. Like Tremclad and Rustoleum, it's an oil based enamel product that is hard as woodpecker lips when dry. I may add a few drops of a product called Japan Dryer to speed up the drying process if it take too long to dry naturally.

Hope some of you might find this tip useful...I'll post a few pictures as I get further along. Oh yeah, and it was pretty reasonably priced as well! (less than $75 got me 2 quarts of color and 1 quart of grey primer).

Thanks for the tip! And as far as Home Hardware goes I'm always pleased at the stuff I find there that the big box boys don’t feel like carrying.

I'm guessing Home Hardware is a Canada only store?

  5. Just checked...it may be a Canadian only franchise. Too bad, they've got a great product line! I guess this thread will be for only the Canadian HAMB'RS (sorry about the confusion).

The picture below is the part I took in for matching, and the resulting paint they mixed. 20220728_113139.jpg

Good to know, had no clue they did that, I’ve used their spray bombs and been happy with it.

Only small town locations around here. They closed all their locations anywhere that Lowes moved into a few years ago.

Last time I checked (+- 2 years ago) Sherwin Williams still offered a oil based paint that was similar to Rustolem and could be color matched and tinted. Bought some for a piece of machinery I was redoing. Pricing was as good or better than the box stores.

Cool tip, thanks. We have one in town but I may have to call the paint something else. I can just hear my buddies now, "killer frame what paint did you use?" Me: " oh I just dazzled it up with a little custom mixed Beau***one." Lol

I had RUST COAT color matched to ‘93 BMW Evergreen , looks like an early ford green. It was matched perfect . You also receive the code they use so if you need more it is not a problem . Seems to be as tough and durable as Rustoleum . Worked for me .

The Ace hardware in my town has color matching capabilities for their Rust stop line
Which is about the same as rustoleum
I use Napa PIH 50 hardener in it
    It works great
