History tinted/colored windsheilds...WHEN?????????

  1. was wondering when they started doing colored/tinted glass in hot rods...yellow, lite blue, green ect...gotta love old drag cars with titned windsheilds

    Tinted glass first used by Chrysler in the top of the line cars mid - late '30s, but never common. Postwar intro by Buick in 1950, by '52 all manufacturers offered it. Most rodders serious about racing just left the glass out in the interest of saving weight until rule changes required a windshield in some classes. Certainly as soon as tinted Plexiglass was offered, some car guy picked up on it & used it ...

    Not sure when they started tinting windows on hot rods but I bought some window tint spray in 1965 for my car. The kit included tape and a drip rail to tape at the bottom of the windows. You then would spray the tint on and let it run down into the drip rail. It came out pretty even even on my plexiglas rear window. The blue tint sure messed up seeing the fall colors though.

  5. blue seems to be the color i remember the most..although there are alot of yellow tinted ones that also come to mind,,i like the lite blue,,,though about having the glass for my project done in lite blue tint,,,and the whole windsheild...makes me wonder about John:mad:Law though....
