My wife has complained for sometime now about the gasoline smell in the garage, so I have been trying to find a cure and I think I have!
Both of my cars have a 1/4" ID vent hose from the tank top exiting under the car.
I found a Dorman #47149 vacuum check valve in the Help Section at my parts store. It's very small and fits the 1/4" line.
It draws enough air while driving and doesn't restrict fuel flow.
    The Smell is Gone!

Run the vent tube through an 80's charcoal filter canister, then vent out side?

The problem with a one way check valve is that if the car is parked out in the sun and the fuel tank pressure rises, the fuel can be pushed out of the tank, possibly flooding the carburetor. A charcoal canister is a far better solution.

I have not found a small charcoal canister, if you know of one, let me know what it is or what it's for. Help me out here!

  8. The smallest canister i've seen but never really sourced one was off a 03 kawasaki vulcan 800 motorcycle from california. My friend bought one with all the emissions removed and it was in a box. It's unbelievable the emissions crap even on a motorcycle from california. Maybe you can find one on epay. I remember looking at it and it was small. Like 3 in x 1-1/2 or so.

If my wife got into my garage, it wouldn't be the smell she'd be complaining about. Your garage must be a fancy pantsy, lol.

Usually if I eat 16 bean soup this causes the problems. It does cover any gasoline odor that may be present...but not in a pleasant way.

The canister that comes to mind I have seen on my wifes OT 82 Firechicken, after the canister, it is routed back to the carb. May not look "cool" on a vintage hot rod mill. I would try the canister alone first, maybe two of them?

Complaining about the smell of gasoline in the garage is the equivalent of complaining because the kitchen smells like bread baking.

My wife says she likes the smell of fuel, oil, grease, my b.o., etc. out in the shop. She doesn't care so much for my farts though.

To be fair, my shop is a barn about 100 yards from the house. I bet yours is attached. That can be a problem...fumes go in the house.

  17. Washed my Carharts ....all gone smell good again ...

  18. Start using a little gas for cologne, she'll get use to it!

If the simple smell of gas offends your wife, then I also wouldnt recommend starting up an old 2-stroke motocross bike near an open window. :D

I also wouldn't recommend using her oven for "curing" the new header paint on the same mx bike's expansion chamber. Stinks up the house something fierce.

Dont ask me how I know these things.

  24. Once, when one of mine came in the shop, I asked her,

"Where'd you get them shoes, and what are you doing' out of the kitchen"?

She didn't think it was as funny as I did.

Do you guys have any idea how much blue smoke an '84 Honda CR500 makes when you are trying to warm it up and blow the cobs out
