If you can smell gas there is potentially a lot bigger problem....explosion and fire.

    Listen to the women.

I've always stuck a cheap inline fuel filter on the end of my gas tank vent line and never had any fuel smell in the garage.

When my wife complains I tell her I can move her washer and dryer outside. She gets over it pretty quick.

Someone doesn’t own a carburetor

  9. Another choice for a cheap carbon canister is one from a California Harley. You can usually find them at the swap meet for next to nothing, and some shops will give them to you!

And when you regained consciousness and the swelling went down and you could open your eyes you realized your mistake.

I have a coil of tubing in my vent line just above my tank, that doesn't seem to help. Someone on the H.A.M.B. suggested attaching a fuel filter w/1/4" fittings to the vent line so the tank could breath. That seems to help, but it's not the cure all.
It was also suggested to run a vent line as high above the tank as I could and create a 180 then back down, kind of like a upside down J trap. I don't see how that would make any difference.
Again, the fuel filter on the end of the vent line does seem to help!
    ANY OTHER IDEAS?????

I have kept my old heap in the garage for years, the only time I smell gas is when I have a leak, or spilled some. Had a carb seeping once that smelled real bad, was tough to find cause it made no mess anywhere. I had to use a flashlight to find the glossy area. The gas evaporated almost as fast as it seeped out.
    Just a thought. :)

My dad spends alot of time in my garage, and he can get pretty ripe. My wife has been complaining a lot. Do you think it would help if I fed him dryer sheets? Or maybe I should install a charcoal canister on his vent?

OK! Here is what I have and have done today! Hope the hell it works! I used a puke tank and screened the lines inside and filled it with activated charcoal and attached it to a fuel filter and then on to the curley-q on top of the tank!

I like the cannister idea......I'm in agreement about the vapor pressure buildup....An extreme example was a customer's truck, the pressure forced enough fuel thru the carb to overfill to the crankcase; Fortunately, he noticed a puddle under it, and did not try to start it, had it towed in.

Tell her to put a mask on while she's in the garage. Seems a whole lot easier and cheaper.

Every time you return from a car meet, Spray the passenger seat with a different cheap purfume.

Trust me, she won't complain about the gas fumes.

  23. Weird. I thought that was part of having an old car in your garage.

  25. Gas smell in the garage: years ago one of my neighbors had a gas smell in his garage, it was coming from a OT car (VW) the neighbor didn't think to much about it, he also had a garden tool charging in a wall socket, 12 hours of not opening the garage door to let the fumes out caused the garage blow up, he lost everything in that garage fire, fire dept told him the charger has a spark inside the charger and that's what ignited the fumes.

OK! This was this mornings project. Still smelled gas, off came the canister.
I came off the curley-q with 3 loops as high as and behind the tank.
Then I dropped through the floor and attached a fuel filter with 1/4"
fittings then from the filter a 3' line terminating in the frame rail.
This afternoon it was 84 degrees---2 days, No smell!
