I just recieved my plans from TIP tools to build their cabinet and am wondering if anyone else has built one using these plans and if there are any modifications or alterations they made to improve on it??? One thing that I am thinking is that rather than use the baffle on the back wall for incoming air I will mount a small air cleaner element to draw air through, hopefully making it impossible for dust to get out. Any other ideas?? Thanks-
Can't help you, but I'm thinking about building a cabinet too so I can media or bead blast stuff like carbs and backing plates & drums. Anyone have any input? Tell me more about the plans you got.
there's not much too it, build a box with a funnel on the bottom to collect and recycle the abrasive. I tried to build one without plans but am not smart enough to figure out the angle on the funnel so I thought $7 for the TIP plans was pretty reasonable. I am gonna build it and use some old Wal Mart sand blast components I have laying around and see how they work before ordering the TIP stuff, although there stuff is pretty reasonable. Joe e-mail me if you want some more specific info.
I'm planning to build one out of a 55 gal. drum laid on it's side with legs. Weld up a funnel, weld up a simple hinge and latch for the original drum top to swing on the end for your door, add some fittings for a cheap hand-held blaster (a siphon unit would work and if you don't want to dick with the funnel, suck it right off the bottom), get the gloves off of Ebay, or elsewhere, and a cheapy plexiglass window (wrap around and easy to replace). The whole thing shouldn't cost $100.00 JOE
Dan - You got a link for TIP tools. I haven't herd of them and being on a tight budget they might be able to help me get some homemade tools I can't figure out how to make on my own. Thanks.
I've got one that I built and have been using for about 4 or 5 years now. It works good. All I use in it is glass beads. I have just never needed anything else. By the time you buy all of the materials and TIP's kit I am not sure you are saving much money, but you can built it as big as you want. I made mine out of wood, but if I did it again I would bend up some sheet metal for the box. We have industrial ones at work and except for the pressure it works just as good. I just blasted a first grade school desk that I restored for our family room and it sure saved a lot of time and did a lot better job than stripping it.
