Find a logger in the area, he'll be able to have it out of the woods in less time than you could drink a cup of joe.

Log skidders rule!!! I have been stuck bad in the woods in KY and always been able to find someone with a skidder. These things make you feel ashamed of a locked bronco on 33's let me tell ya.

  3. Bring four 2 x 4's to roll the drum on - two at a time. That will even out the terrain and protect the owner's yard.

This has been a fun read, so far: My 2 cents-
The tripod seems like the best idea to lift it up- easier to carry too. If you set it up right, you could then "tip" it forward onto the ground in front of the car. Disassemble the motor and haul it out in pieces. A large 2-wheeled wheelbarrow-or hand truck might work well. Good luck, be careful and for Gods sake post pictures!

    Don't forget the basics:

A long leaver and fulcrum has built pyramids.

Block and Tackle work great as an old old school deal (think tall ships or second floors on barns.

To expand on the winch idea, if you could pay someone with a old tow truck. The tow truck would have lot's of cable for pulling. He might charge by the hour.

  6. Take some old junk rims to use as pilings you can jack on if the ground is soft. I sank a stack of 'em (like 3 or 4) under a '54 Ford in a wrecking yard one afternoon while skipping class in High school.

But I got that little tin shield off the bottom of the bellhousing!

Why don't you rent one of these-they will not disturb the ground much, and will have great flotation-

A hood flipped upside down make a good sled attach a ratchet strap and pull by hand or with an ATV or lawn tractor.

Roadrat Eddie has the answer and it will leave the ground un molested and it will also get rid of any unwanted guests.

  12. For what it's worth, you can always just take the heads, intake, and crank and rods and leave the block. Most of the Hemis share the block with the Poly version, and you can always find one of those somewhere.

Exceptions are the 392 needs a 392 block, and I think there is no poly DeSoto either.

  14. Build your ride in the bush and drive it out.....seriously though,I brought a cast iron powerglide out of the bush in a wagon that had pneumatic tires.Kept the trans for 2 years then threw it out...the next week a guy wanted to buy it. Go figure....

  15. Lots of great creative ideas here, that's for sure. I guess I'll throw my 2 cents into the pot as well. #1 I like the idea of removing the front end and getting all of that out of the way. #2 I like the idea of using old wheels to secure and steady the car(I have used new bales of straw in that situation & yes they are very stout!!) #3 I like the idea of bringing a torch set in & then cut the frame off at the firewall. (get driveshaft unbolted & misc). #4 Now you have an engine/trans in the front frame & from there I like the idea of waiting for the snow to fall & put a skid/sled under it #5 I like the idea of getting a winch cable hooked up to it & then tow/pull it out as you are able. GOOD LUCK!:D Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy

  16. Whatever you do, be careful.

I had a friend get killed when a car, sitting in a dirt lot, fell on him.

    No part is worth that.

    Building on a related suggestion:
Bring in a cutting torch, stril off all the front sheetmetal, disconnect the drive shaft, and torch the frame behind the engine. A cordless sawzall and half a dozen batteries would work in place of the torch (And it's a GREAT excuse to buy a cordless Sawzall!) Then you've got a cradle on it's own tires. Put new tires on it, bolt a couple of 10-foot 2x4s to the bumper bracket mounting holes in the frame, and pull it out like a Chinese Rickshaw!

Thanks again for the tips guys. Really good stuff here.

And Comet, speednazi, thanks for the offers to help, I really appreciate that. I'll let you know if I need it.

The owner is a real paranoid weirdo so I don't know if I'll be able to get photos or not.

Use the winch idea and pull the whole car out if it's not too far in those woods.

I am sure an 4X4 truck offroader would have an adequately sized winch, if not a long enough cable

In all seriousness, In the words of the late Johnny Cash "ONE PIECE AT A TIME' to me seems the cheapest and safest, and of course a wagon with big pneumatic tires
