Im gonna install my new tranny this weekend, and I heard that installing the torque converter can be tricky. Any tips on installing a torque converter? Any help will be appreciated so i know i wont fuck anything up.. Thanks Nate
put a quart of ATF in it first. Then put it on, but make sure it's on all the way! usually youll need to spin and push it on to get it to go three "clicks"...first is the input shaft spline, then the stator spline, then the drive tangs or flats. You can tell it's in all the way by measuring how far from the block to the flexplate where the converter bolts on, and measuring between the trans case and the converter lugs, you want there to be extra room in there! otherwise you'll bust the pump when you tighten up the trans to block bolts
Once the tranny is bolted in and before you bolt the converter to the flexplate make sure that there is not too much back and forth movement if there is shim between them. Too much gap can pull the snout out of the pump.
