Technical Tire Advise Please

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Shutter Speed, Jan 7, 2023.

  1. I’m running a set of tubed 600/16 Coker Classics on ‘35 wheels on my Banger. Rather than going bigger on the rear I’d like to go smaller up front. Coker’s literature states their 550 will fit the 4” rim, but their 500 needs 3 3/4” max rim width.

Has anyone run 500/16’s on ‘35 wheels? Would I be asking for trouble? 8EAE0D90-7C56-4929-B822-B166F689E651.jpeg

If you call Coker, they will go over the pluses/minuses. I have found them very helpful.

Yeah, they are being overly cautious.

I did push it too far and put 8.90-16's on a 16 x 4" wheel. That was a bit much. I widened those to 6-1/2".

    As for running 5.00 x 16's on a 16 x 4" wheel, I would do that in a heartbeat.

I have a whole mess of customers running Firestone 5.00-16 ribbed dirt track tires on 16 x 4" wheels.

Not a single one has had an issue of any kind.

If moving the beads of a tire out 1/8" per side was the difference between success and failure, there would be a historical record of the sides of the road being littered with bodies, and the practice would be illegal.
