I can’t tell you but a couple of years ago Google showed me how to read the date code.

First 2 digits are the week of production. Last 2 are the year.

..I'm not sure that's the date code. I may be wrong, but isn't there a little oval on the sidewall with week/ year in it?

keep looking, maybe there's a little oval with the week/year in it?

this is what you're looking for. If the tires are from the last millenium, you might see only one digit for the year, then you'd have to guess if it means 1990s, 1980s, etc.

this particular example means 09th week of 2018

They didn't really enter our consciousness until the early 2000s, but they've been on tires a long time. Not always the same as they are now, though. I've found them on tires I know were from the 80s and one I'm pretty sure was from the 70s.

    ..Thanks, Jim.

  11. Some companies may have done it earlier but it was mandated by the U S Department of Transportation in 1971.

The date code is the last four digits of the DOT number and is sometimes only on one sidewall.

4 digit number started about 2000 before that 3 digit number was the week and one number for the year, so it could be 75, 85 or 95.
