  1. Hey Guys,

I bought some 16" steel rims on the weekend for my ride...they came with some 6.00 tires. two look really good, they all hold air and there is no damage that i can see. what i want to know is...how can you tell if i bias play tire is stuffed? what is this mysterious dry rot they talk of? one of the tires has some fine cracking along the side wall...is this terminal?

I dont know a lot about the bias stuff, but most tired have a "shelf life" of about 5 years or so... After that the rubber begins to break down and deteriorate more or less...The cracks are normal for old tires, most people call it weather checking, if its real bad, dont run them... But most tires on the road that are more than a few years old have a little of it going on if you look close....at leats around here....Hope this help... -J.
