Just received some tires from coker(760 15s bias ply). tried to get the shop down the street mount one just to check if they will fit in the wheelwells, they said there machine wouldnt do bias plys and the guy said they used to installs them by hand. so i went home and did just that with not much problem, the problem is i cant get air in it . whats the trick to it ,i dont think the rim is too big, or should i take it to a shop and have them air it up? any info is appreciated.:D

you can make a turn a kit out of rope and a screwdriver and tighten it up . Are be a thrill seeker , spray a VERY small amount of starting fluid in tire and throw a match in it . It will seat tire & throw match out . I have done this many times .

They make a small air tube type thing that you put around the tread surface of the tire and put air into. It squizes the center of the tire and pushes the beads closer to the rim. Be sure the tire bead is lubed up (soapy water works) and put air in the tire. As soon as it beads up, release the air from the tube thing. You can get them from NAPA stores and probably some tractor supply places. Damned if I can remember what those things are called though. Gene

Try takin the valve core out of the stem, take air nozzle with rubber tip, press against stem and let her rip. Tire should pop against rim, replace valve core and inflate as normal.
    worked for me

  6. I never saw a tire machine that could'nt do bias tires. I think the tire jock had never seen them before and did'nt know what to do, plus he was probably pissed ya did'nt buy tires from him.

Yeah, what he said! If you have a chuck you can "lock" onto the stem that will make it easier as well. Or maybe a friend with some hand/eye coordination.

There's no difference between mounting a bias or radial tire, the procedure and the machine is the same. If it's a tube type, you just add the step of installing the tube, the rest is still the same. Sounds like you ran into a DS tire buster, probably the first bias tire he's ever seen. Unfortunatly there's alot of that going around in this business.

  11. I'm with 36-3window, what about the tubes?

    EXACTLY!!!!

A bias-ply is mounted NO differently than a radial!!!! I myself have mounted 5.20 bias ply's onto a 13X7 wire rim with NO problem and that is a difference of ...2 inches!!! He's a DUMB **** or lazy ***!!!!!! If you were here I could do them for you or better yet show you how to do them yourself!!!....Ken

Find a better tire shop!Shops that mount large truck, trailer and farm tires will be more experienced with tube type tires,or anything else because they don't just deal with radial car tires.
