I know this isnt hamb friendly but, need advice

I went this past weekend to get a set of tires put on my Z i have the 19" TSW thruxtons, that have the machined lip. I have dealt with this tire shop before with my tires and never had a problem but they are kinda expensive for my area but if thy do a good job I dont care, I havent drove my Z since september and I was celebrating my birthday saturday so i went to get the tires I had put on the car saturday. Well i dropped the car off and they looked busy so I told them no rush and take your time. Well i got the car back and went home to detail it for that night. Well there was black rubber residue left on the lip so when I cleaned it off I noticed 2 huge gashes in the lip of the wheel on the back of the car. I say the are parallel to each other and are about 3 inchs long and a inch wide and 1/8 deep on one wheel right on the edge and the metal is gone, on the other lip there is 2 big knicks where the metal is rolled up, almost in the same location, its horrible, i called immediatly and tlaked to the owner and he said bring back monday, So i took it back monday and he said I dont know how this happened that thy use plastic heads and put towels on all the metal stuff that touched the wheels. He said he can get his wheel expert to look at them thursday and see if he can file the edges down and try to fix it he said thats all he can do. I dont know how thy can fix the machined lip? So i told him I would bring it back and let him look at it but it need to be fixed right and if it wasnt then we would have to go from there. So any one got any advice on how to handle this instead of possibly getting arrested?

  2. Tell them thats what they have insurance for, when they screw wheels up, they replace the wheels, not try and sand em down.
I would have a field day with that clown.

edit, I see that you asked how to handle it....I would firmly let them know where I stand, what I think their obligations are and I wouldnt scream and holler, and I would give in either, I would do***ent everything, even the conversation etc, take it to a higher power in the corporation if there is and if not, take them to small claims court with lots of pictures etc etc.
Definately dont lose it and make an *** of yourself, but be firm and dont be scared to make your case at their counter in front of all the other waiting customers.
You know they dont want to accept responsibility or they would have already, so be ready to issue them a legal kick in the nuts.

Im going to allow them a chance to fix them even though i know they wont be able to, once they try to fix them it shows that they accepted responsibility for there mistake and they cant try to say they didnt do it. I will do***ent our conversation and take alot of pixs

  6. Giove him a chance to make it right. If he doesn't and refuses to do so then take him to small claims court.
Be sure to do***ent everything upto and including recording or writting down any conversations.

On a lighter note, Happy Birthday. Sorry it turned out bad for ya but happy birthday anyway.

  7. I used to work at a tire shop and even though their is rubber on the head it can still scratch, after a certain amount of time the rubber on there starts to come off as well. I'd ask to look at the machine and see if that has happened

Take pictures immediately, before you let them try to repair (and after). My guess is they won't be able to make them as before. Ask for their insurance companies information. Demand new wheels.

    How about some pics?
Also Smile and say "Well, that's what Small Claims Court is for". And Do It!
I supervise any work done on anything I own. Some youngsters love damaging other peoples stuff,,I guess out of Jealosy. Take pictures of the head on the tire machine too.
    Good Luck!

Just for future reference and to help some others, always closely inspect wheels like this before you leave the place that did the work. I've seen the shop blame the person since they had left. It only takes a few moments and can save a lot of headache.

This is not rocket science. Insurance companies use reconditioned wheels every day. The wheels get sent out, repaired and look as good as new. Of course if these are brand new wheels with no mileage, I'd expect them to replace with no. They can keep the damaged wheels and attempt to sell them.

Yea i usually look over them but i had never had a problem before with them, and was trying to hurry to clean it to go out for my birthday, I think I know what happened to it, the wheels are wider than my fronts and they have to be reversed mounted on the machine. So i looked at the machine and saw 4 claws that grap the wheels and really think that it caused the problem, like when they tried to take the tire off the wheel spun in the clamps and chunked them up. He said they put rags on the clamps but i dnt think they did that day. I will take pics and I will do***ent everything, Ill also get pics on here tommorow to show yall. Thanks besides that my birthday was good

Yea i understand they can fix messed up wheels, but there is alot of material gone from the wheel, as if it just dug them out. And the other problem is that it has a machined lip and it isnt polished, I talked to a wheel guy and he said the only way to fix it is to polish them out and that the machine look would go away, and so all my wheels would have to be polished and I got them for the machined look, so Im going to let him try and he will realize it cant be fixed.

Sounds like you are on the right path. Just remember to no loose your temper/cool. Do***entation is your best friend right now, and with them offering/attempting to repair them, they are accepting blame at that point. Belated Happy Birthday tho.... Good Luck.

I also forgot to mention that owner told me that if his employees damage a car or wheel that he makes them pay for it, He said it teachs them not to damage stuff, I dnt think that is right at all. Kinda shady what you think?

    Completely illegal!
He also sounds like a cheap *******, and this is one more way that he doesn't have to pay for damages to customer's property.

yes that does happen,,even more so with the smaller tires..A GOOD tire changin person knows what to do to try and avoid this, but with some of these newer tires it can be touchy

Make them replace your wheels. I had the same thing happen to a set and it took a while but they replaced them...Do you have full coverage on your car.... if so talk to your insureance let them know whats going on maybe they can help you out..... Also call the BBB and see where he stands their you can find out if he has alot of complants if so you can use that in your favor....

Low profile tires are by far the hardest to mount as there isn't enough sidewall. Makes it harder to get the tire on.

You're right about letting them try to fix them and then they accepted liability. The only thing I could add is to make damn sure they replace all 4 wheels or you'll have 2 different styles of wheels then. Stick to your ground and demand new ones as you had 4 matching wheels before you went there. Steven.

The problem I have at most tire and other shops is they have a big sign saying " keep out employs only ", so you can't see whats going on . They always say its there insurance carrier giving them problems . Well I had my own construction buissiness for 30 years and never had that problem and construction sites are a lot more dangerous than a tire shop .

They said they used rags but cloth won't protect metal to metal to any extent. He might have been saying he would make the employee pay for it so you would feel sorry for the guy and not push it.
