Are you suggesting the loose fanbelt is a clue it's a work in progress? You may be absolutely correct Stan...not the first time an unfinished one was taken to a show...It sure wasn't to far away from it...anyone know of this oddball?...a bit of a hybrid...

A lot of quality happening there especially in the later pictures in the link. Some serious parts gathering & fab work. Is there a writeup? What tranny? Which Buick 8? Mine might need the quarter elliptics all around but probably not.

The Highboy look was no doubt influenced by these blasts from the past not to mention the tiny headlights, and the positioning, this was 1930/31...and it's diesel powered...Cummins was quite the player in go fast and they certainly had style that was surely influential...

This rocker and shaker from the past has been shared here before but is well worthy of another revisit as it surly has the right stuff and delivered...

I know the focus has been on " diverse" early rods/ racers ...but these three fit accordingly imo .....Skip's sedan, the late " Chop It" coupe, which was hard to Google an image, and the E/B sedan in it's heyday ....

That's the only drawback of long Threads...but I agree much of Hotrods best are within the depths of this extensive journey and deserving of recognition with the others.

...Class...it is interesting that Custom is very influential in Hotrod as well...

Somewhere along the Historical journey Hotrod became more looksy along with go fast...I suppose Car Shows in the early 50s and perhaps earlier were instrumental in that...

  26. I would paint it, and change the grille shell. I like it. I'd like it better painted. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

...another 32......not a problem of course...;)...especially when Chet puts his signature on it...this was one wild ride...chopped 4 dr, fenderless, specially equipped for driving with his being handicapped and the fuel delivering the oomph was alternative to boot...quite a rocker and shaker in his day with many accolades in Hotrod/Race...

From the link, "It was fitted with a 270 Cui GMC straight six mill coupled to a 1950 Buick Dynaflow transmission with the help of a custom machined adaptor plate The GMC truck engine was bored 3 31/32" and stroked 4", providing 296 Cui. Compression ratio with the stock Horning head was 12 to 1. Chet had it dyno-tested, and the test indicated 198 hp at 400rpm. A small tank located alongside the fuel tank supplied alcohol for a special injection system, which could be cut in at any time. The alcohol could gain 30 hp. It was fit with a Spalding two-coil ignition, homemade headers with by-pass opening for lake running, and a 2" Smitty muffler. Chet had set up two batteries producing 12 V for quick starting."
My how times have changed! It is a lot easier to get 200hp today. His 270 started with about 90 hp the same as the 153 four cylinder I'm building for my roadster. I'll have most of that 200 hp in a package that probably weighs 1/3 of the Jimmy. He was a pioneer.
