Hot Rods Tired of homogenized hotrods

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by onekoolkat1950, Dec 24, 2015.

  1. This one is still around, ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ still has the chrome frame and clear hood. Last time I saw it was at the Oakland CA. museum. It was still owned by the original builder, but that was many years ago. The Oakland Museum had a great display of historic Hotrods, but that was somewhere around 29 years ago. The Men and Machines of California's Car Culture. is what it was called, and it was outstanding. https://patganahl.com/2019/05/27/quick-pics/

...Thanks for sharing that @Fat ASS Whitewalls...It did get noticed...there was a book published by him based on that Event at the Museum it seems and he also ran a printing company on top of being known for his mechanical genious. He built the roadster when he was 18... Unfortunately he is not with us anymore but it is always nice to connect the dots and remember them...

The late Hamber @steel rebel knew him well it seems...see link below...

...run whatcha got!! This adventurous Hotrod was quite a standalone in the late 1930s. It looks like a speedster hop up with a sprinkling of Art Deco...

I went to the show at the Oakland Museum. a great collection of historic hot rods. I was also able to attend the 50th Oakland Roadster Show in San Francisco. That is where I met Marty Strode and he sold my 15 year old son a McCulloch for his Stude wagon. Good times!

  5. I too was at the 50th. How I wish I could have made the75th. Being in Missouri and other personal reasons kept that from happening. That will be a regret the rest of my life. We probably bumped into each other in the crowd.

If you were in that area from '59-'72 and attended car shows and racing from 1/4 midgets to Drags and flat track we bumped into each other!

I like shots like this as it clearly shows low slung was making inroads in the go fast crowd in the later 40s...they were there well before that but here was a group amongst the higher ground and it really makes them stand out...also notable is cut down doors and other forces of power that made for mixed records chipping away at the dominant brands in the winners circle...

...The story went and this may predate WW11, above, this may be the next iteration of the previous post...it's said to be still around... @rbantique, may be part of that story...it's his friend Paul Norman...it went to California apparently...but still here if it is it...these tail fins also appeared perhaps originally on indy cars inspired of course by aviation...

...I believe this Hotrod was in one of the late @Rockerhead's pics he shared early in one of his threads and likely shot them...

    Quoted...

"This photo is of Al Hawkin's 1927 Chevy phaeton with a '34 Ford grill shell. It had a Ford model B engine with a Winfield head. The important thing here is that Hawkins, in addition to being a Pasadena Roadster Club hot rodder, was a professional photographer. Al took all of the photos here"

You did some really cool stuff...

Tom Sanders is mentioned in the filename...I suspect its the 40 Conv. He owns but that pickup reminds me of Gojo's that's moved on to another Hamber...

  17. Consider for a moment that at the time of the photo the vehicle may not have been finished. Just sayin.

Nice roadster, and thanks for the Stones link.
I dated a girl in college around '64 that said the Stones played at her Senior Ball in Sacramento. Those Limey bands were everywhere around that time. She left toenail marks in the old headliner in my '48 Chevy. Those were the days! My wife's class only got the Turtles. :D
