That bottom 32 5 window has been all over this place and it's a hack job without question...can't sugar coat it...so the lack of a hinge is just something that one would expect with this type of build...low there was way back indeed very low and I go out of my way to post them here as they look out of place however they were there...and were trendsetters like all the other Hotrods.

That could be a yard art 'F' with ones head project...some do stuff like that...or a Photoshop joke...I dunno heck it might have a barn door hinge arc welded inside...might as well throw in some hidden hidden hinges eh...;)

The other ones I believe hands down...

  3. I also wondered about the “drag car”
Apears to be a 28/29 rpu
The head lights, bobbed rear fenders, front brakes spell street car. But has a tow bar

We generally call cars built with the axle this far forward a RR

No sir I like photos that counter popular opinion in a period manner...I have posted a number of things that are regularly frowned upon as they were front and center with the perceived real deal traditional. Glad the photographs exist.

I think the car was double duty drag/street. Looking at the background that car was built lonnnggggg before the RR tag was coined. Also there really wasn't such a thing as traditional then, the norm yes. Because of this many different styles developed over the years. Too many now think in cookie cutter terms as far as the way it HAS to be done

One thing for sure some of the not so cutest ducklings left you standing still and sported many innovative ideas that exist to this day...that 32 Cabriolet posted up a few is completely out of this world...that sure would have cranked the neck seeing that go by...:D. Happy Sunday to you too.

Maybe someone came across a certain magazine article way back and was inspired?

    Not in this thread...:D

Actually this Hotrod seems to have been put together by a crafty individual...nothing seems poorly done even the running boards...I wonder if those were one of those JC Witney or Cal Custom things as wrapping those into that shape is no easy feet...

I was thinking of @tb33anda3rd when I saw it. I actually thought the mags were thrown on to add some hotrod look but other than the battery it all looks vintage mid 60s?

So TB is this a different model or year as the hood sides are different. I guess that back bumper is stepped out for the trunk mounted spare?

The reason your having trouble putting them in a niche is there race cars first, and form follows function. Race cars can be and have been crude interpretations of what works. Granted some are refined but given the name jalopy doesn't indicate refined. In fact it would be just the opposite. I chuckel over the things that are criticized here, the hotrods of the 40s,50s and 60s would have been a work in progress and driven every day for some, in various States of completion. A photograph of any one day 70 years later to say that's not correct or its photoshopped is funny. It might not fit a standard assigned by this forum or its members but it is the history of the hotrod.

For a story about hotrods look up Vic Edelbrocks story when he raced his 32 on the dry lakes, it was his only car and he pulled the fenders, lights, windshield and running boards to run it then reassembled the car so his wife could drive it during the week.
Just have to remember the amount of time that has past, the improvements in technology in welding and paint and manufacturing that are at our disposal now that were not then. The products we produce in our garages are better than the custom shops of the day.

    Rant over.

  27. 33atspeed.jpg My 33 pickup wasn't homogenized ...it was just plain rough but the 59AB ran good.

It isn't...at least in my opinion...I think many like using that description, theres a 34 resurrection going on here and as a full fledged hemi powered Hotrod it sported front spring perchs crafted out black pipe and threaded bar...does that make it a Rat...No...so yeah stuff can be sketchy but that doesn't make it that R word I can't stand...I post links so people can visit for further reference...I almost left that off as that descriptive text generates negative ions around here...however there's a story I guess.

I don't have any trouble with niche...they're not cookie cutter and race or not theres lots of Hotrod in between the slices. The center vehicle is plated and the 32 was probably destined for street as well

I think seeing one hinge is worthy of conversation as is the other workmanship on that coupe itself and your right it may be in mock-up and be in fact not road ready...

The products available today do in no way guarantee what's coming out of the home garage is any better than back then and I certainly don't think any of the credible shops back then have any worrys that they are being outdone by the average home based Hotrodder.

There are very credible builders here many at home...many with shops as well but skill to universally build is literally a skilled trade and many still farm out many of the challenges at hand.
