Throw out the catalogs, I always thought the HAMB was about traditional, every part mentioned in this thread is available in a wrecked or junked car. Just my 2 cents.. :)

I spent three years f*****g about with a locally made radiator, making a shroud, making a bigger shroud, adding extra to it, swapping about four different fans out, adding an extra electric fan etc, and I'd STILL overheat on a hot day in slow traffic.

Eventually it all went south, the electric fan got eaten by the mechanical fan one day, trashed everything.

Then I spent $160 at Summit racing on an aluminum rad, and the problem has gone now.....

Sounds simple, but when you live where I do everything has to be imported, if you can't make or adapt it yourself.

I made my own pickup bed.

Mind you, I also made everything else on the car from the frame up... including the scoop.

Couldn't find a windscreen frame or pillars, so made my own. Stainless angle bar frame, 1/4 steel posts, LOTS of hand cutting and filing and grinding, then chromed up.

When the Speedway store is 8000 miles away, you have to make your own, or spend BIG bucks.

  3. Nice job there Morrisman!

I have no problem at all making big parts. You do what you gotta do, but the little shit we shouldn't have to make drives me crazy, like P clamps.
The latest thorn in my ass are some
1/4-18 thread nuts. You look at a project and say ok, "needs some nuts". no biggie because we can grab them from the bin and get them tightened in between pee breaks. Almost no charge there. Nope- need to order the tap, get 2 feet of material, re set the lathe for a square chuck, and make nuts !!!!

Those little P clips?? I couldn't find them ANYWHERE here in the Philippines, so I made some, out of stainless banding strap.

Cut off, drilled, carefully bent, radiused, deburred.....only took about three days to make a dozen and they were so stiff I could hardly use 'em. :(

Then I went to England on a trip, with work, and bought a huge bag, various sizes, rubber coated.....enough to last ten years or more.

Why are most sockets far deeper than the height of a nut or bolt head? So it slides into the socket instead of starting on the threads? I know it's not parts, but it's been bugging me.

  8. Whenever possible I use Flanged head bolts and nuts. I buy them by the 100 count box in grade 5. $20.00 worth and you need both hands Carrying it all.
