The tires are over 40 years old, look great, no checking or rot on the outside. But must have sat flat for a long time as they have slight flat spots and bounce pretty badly at about 30MPH.

So, my question is what is a comparable size street tire today? McCreary 33.0/15-15 DT

    TIA

    Mitch

Hoosier offers a pro street tire. Website should find something close.
33x21.50 15 is the one I saw. Hold onto your wallet!

Thanks. The tire sizing is throwing me off. Am not sure what to order...33.0/15.0 is throwing me off. My tires measure 31" tall @15 lbs., is 15.0 a ratio? My rims and tread are 15" wide. Sidewalls are at 18.5". And the DT? I read that it means Different Tread?

Thanks. This is our first Hotrod and we really lucked out. Bought off an estate auction and was advertised as "sat for over 30 years, engine is free but has not been run". Apparently, this was his show car, and we are finding out he spared no expense.

DT is for Dirt Track! they're not DOT legal. You want the Hoosier Pro Street Radials, every T bucket guy that runs them loves them. They drive way better than the Mcrearys, and do better in the rain than Mickey Thompsons. I have not personally run the Hoosiers, but the consensus is overwhelmingly positive.

33.0 is the diameter ( how tall they are), 15.0 means it fits a 15” wheel. The DT probably stands for dirt track. Lots of guys used to run dirt track tires on the street.

I would pop for front brakes real soon. (The spindle mounts are cool but brakes are important)

That’s my next technical question, how to get discs on these rims, doesn’t seem like a lot of meat to work with...

Hoosier Pro Street Radial Tire Size: 31x18.50R-15LT look like a better match (and a little cheaper, but not by much!)

Some things were not ment to be messed with, those rims are one of them, don't screw them up by trying to add brakes to them.

The rear tires are something more to think about other than just size.
If you put radials on that car it will ruin the cars look and history !
There's tons of guys running dirt track tires out on the street, they do wear quickly due to the soft compound but are relatively cheap in comparison to other tires in the same size. Hoozer quick time pros would look great on there but are pricey, other bias ply in 33 x18.5x15 sizes are available if you do a search.
What are your plans for the car ?

I can add this, Hoosier dirt track tires are a pain in the *** to change. They come folded up,shipped in a box. But if you go on Hoosiers web site you can buy clearance ones for 150 each. Plus they are rounded on the corners and not square.

Thats a great question! Originally a project car for the Father-in Law and me to get running and enjoy and drive. But after diving in we learned that it had a 70's Z-28 four bolt main that was b/b, roller rockers, timing gears, Muncie rockcrusher with compe***ion shifter, 12 bolt GM Posi track rearend, Vortex magneto, two holley blue fuel pumps with S/S braded lines and chrome from the coil springs to the alternator. So, we decided to keep it as original as possible. But things like stopping and being street legal are getting in the way. Really don't want it to be a trailer queen...

What could go wrong? 40 year old tires, blown small black and no front brakes?

The T was obviously a show rod, before you drive it too muck replace all the tires, check the brakes, look into adding disc brakes on the front, BTW, it looks like a well built car. HRP

Just checked, no closeouts for ProStreet at the moment. But will keep checking. Thanks for the advice!

The only closeouts I have ever seen are for round track tires.

Looks like a nice, well built car. Like others have said please don't mess with those wheels! You would be better off getting a different set. If you like the spindle mount look, they make wheels that accept disc brakes.

    :eek::eek:.....FORTY YEAR OLD TIRES !!?!
"Just cause they round don't mean they good !"
Tires (like most other things) have a shelf life.
I'm sure the shelf life on those went out 30 years ago.
Don't mean to come off all preachee but........be careful running old tarz........even IF the tread is good and no side wall cracks.

Ah, come on, they're mostly round, and I'll keep in under a 100!
