Hot Rods Tires ~ not the tired old bias verses radial debate

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Dec 2, 2016.

  1. Regardless of your preference of tire construction you don't go anywhere without them which leads me to the question of sizes that you like and do you stagger the sizes or use the same size front and rear?

I think Different style builds, whither it's a early period perfect traditional hot rod or a '50's custom, even the 60's cars with fatter rear tires.

I had the staggered big & little bias ply tires on my Deuce pickup. HRP

    Tires are 5.60 x 15" and L78 x 15" Coker bias ply.

Always staggered, its like Hot Rodding 101, from my late model Mustang to my model-T roadster. The only thing I have with same size front and rear is my pickup truck.

What size wheels are you running there? Are they the same front and back? I have 50 Merc wheels and want to run big and Littles on a 35 pickup.

Fenders or no fenders it makes a difference to size for me

  5. I agree with you HRP. Depends on the style of the car. I've got 6.70s all around on my 54 ford but definitely would do staggered on a hot rod or muscle car.

I alway use staggered wheels. My 63 Impala (avatar) has P215/70x15 on the front and P245/60x15 on the rear.

Thinking on Hot Rods, Gassers, big and littles is the only way IMO, Street Rods, Resto Rods, maybe a small difference, Mild/ Wild Customs, not needed IMO. Used to see Tuners w/ fatter tires on front, just doesn't look right, But I'm old, always try to remember that's their 57 Chevy.

I had this same struggle last week and just got 5.50-16 for the front and 6.50-16 for the rear for my 30 coupe with fenders and 1939 wheels. Haven't put them on yet so will see.
