I went to the tire store yesterday looing for what I recall was recommended here...E78-15 Bias ply tires for the Horrible.

The guy at the counter looked at me like I had 3 heads.
He went and got the store manager.
Together they looked at theri books (there was no cross reference on their computer) and could not find any subs***ution.

    My question is:
Where do you go for tires and what do you ask for?

And please, lets try and keep the telling me where to go CIVIL?

  2. Try Coker?

They are supposed to be at the HAMB drags..maybe you can pick them up there..

  3. I'm ***uming we're reffering to the rear tyres?

    Coker - L78 15"

8 of the 14 cars here in oz run them, no drama's, look good, feel good, go good, all day, everyday.

    Cheers,

My L78 15 Coker's are wider than the 6" rule, I somehow got off track and didn't measure them. Check it out before you buy!

    Shoot, what fun's that? :D

Yeah, a common tire store today isn't going to carry (or even know what are) bias ply tires. You'll need to go to a specialty store for'em. Most are running the Cokers. We're running light truck tires, although even there the bias plys are getting harder to find.

Hi try going to your local caravan - trailer park to see what is sitting on nearly every van and trailer, yep old bias ply tires by the truck load. Got to be care full as some may be perished . Thats where I got a ute full for $40 each, some looked new. I'm Running old Olympic 16" only 4.5" wide & have clocked 102 MPH @ 13.1 ET. Cheap is the way to go if ya gunna just burn the rubber off em.

  7. deathwish.......if you bought a uteful of them, then you would have spent more than a brand new set which aren't at least 50 years old.....

Has anyone found bias ply tires with a speed rating? The thought of even 100 mph on old design, bias ply tires scares me. That shows I'm getting wiser....or just older and value my **** more than I did years ago.

With out the belted construction of a radial, will they have a problem?
Only tire problems I have ever had at speed were from radials throwing tread.

    64 Dodge,

I don't know if the basic construction of the bias ply is safer than a radial. I do know I'd feel safer with a speed rated radial built to modern standards.

  11. I think my "dream" tire for this cl*** would be a 6" pie crust slick capped on a radial case by Hurst. Other than being a recap instead of a "made" tire, we'd have it all
    traction limiting width
    killer trad looks
    modern case and construction

I might even vote for a "hard" compound so we get lots of smoke!!!!!!!!!

'course then somebody'd gripe about the "spec tire rule"
