I woke up this morning at about 6:00 and noticied it was abnormally cold! in my room!, hmmmm, somethings wrong, nice thing to wake up to, so i went down to the basement and checked the furnace, guess what? the pilot was out. so i set about to relite it, it wouldnt go???ehat the hell! so i did a little bit more tinkering and noticied my hot water heater wasnt lit iether. wierd, didnt place what the real problem was yet. so i called my dad and he came over, we checked it out again, still nothing. ANd it was getting colder, it was 10 dagrees this morning! so my dad said to come check this out, the stve woulnt even lite! so no GAS! great, at least it probably wasnt gonna cost anything to fix just time to wait for them to fix it, so i made a call to the gas company and the said theyd send someone ot within 2 hours. so i began to wait. THe guy actually made it here in about 20 minutes!!! the was quick. he did a few test, figured out the problem and repalced the meter. It must ahve gotten some moisture in it he said. so needless to say its getten a little warmer in the old house again thankfully!!!
Well now that im up i think ill go wotrk in the garage!

I've had that happen too! My family was coming up to our house for Xmas 2 years ago, and the night before, I came home from work, and the house smelled like propane. My husband was at work, didn't know what was going on, so I called the pager # for the guy on call (this was Dec 23rd and they weren't about to be open). He told me to take kids and pets if I had any and sit in the car until he got there. So here I sit, in my car, with a big dog and a cat, who don't really get along, waiting at 11pm for some guy to come over. Found out that the company hadn't come out and done their "routine" stop at my house earlier that month, and we were out of propane. All the pilots burnt out which left everything smelling like propane. Fabulous. So he came out the next day with a propane truck, and the problem was solved [IMG]

Glad to hear things will workout. Hows this for a quick story..

Last year about this time, had no heat ( oil ) called for service & tech comes out at about midnite. Replaces the nozzles in the heater ( which is located in my kitchen) & splits. I get up next morning, goto work & when I come home, as soon as I open the front door notice a nasty smell, walk into the kitchen & see about 10 gallons of Heating oil all over the wood floor in the kitchen ! Called the company & raised hell until they got a tech right out. Turns out the previous tech never adjusted the jets or replaced the filter so the oil pissed into the chamber & overflowed. When the tech fixed the problem & fird up the heater, the whole house filled with black smoke!! Fortuniately at the time I had a guy from a clean up company & the Oil Companys insurance guy in the livingroom. Needless to say I got everything cleaned, replaced or painted in the house ,a complete new kitchen, new heater, new floors & new carpets through the house. Put up with a ton of agg for about 3 months waiting for contractors & stuff but good thing everything worked out.

The orig tech I think was fired too, total cost for everything was over $17,000

My sweet story of heating problems

We moved into this house that was built in 1952/53. First thing I did was locate the furnace...and it's an old junker that is placed under the crawl space. And I notice a sub pump in the general area as well...
I figured since we live on a hill that there should'nt be a flooding problem here. Boy was I ever wrong!

One fine fall evening it decides to downpour here and set records and the sub pump decides to pack it in.In the meantime as I look in the shop and notice the Buicks getting wet from a*****ty drainage system here. (GRRRRRR)

I look under the crawl space and notice the pilot is out due to being under 2 FEET OF WATER!!

So i get a new pump...(9 hours later) crawl under the house in the mud.. see 2 possums hiding out...( love this ) reset the pilot and kick the heat in....

the fuse panel in the house is also the same age (1952-53) and keeps tripping when the heater kicks in. WTF!!! i have to unplug everything on the same sector on the panel to allow the heater to blow. WTF! GONG SHOW!!!!!

After some crafty rewiring and saftey checking we got heat....I bypassed the existing Gas heater and wired in a 220 shop heater in and now this puppy pumps the heat and the shack is heated quickly..cheaply and it has a thermostat on it... so mint!... GHETTO HEAT!

( in the background you hear a hotwater heater pressure release valve whistling) DOH!!!!

*Falls on knees..... cries... punching floor...*

We haven't been that cold. It's like 11 degrees right now, but it's snowed every friggin day since Christmas eve. I'm getting sick of ducking snow plows but at least they've been more or less keeping up with it. It's also been warm enough between storms to let it sink in so it's not all that deep. Still, it pisses me off every time I need to grab the shovel to get in the garage. Luckily I work in town now so I haven't been stuck at work like some of my friends. They ran a rotary out west of town yesterday so the guys out on the site could finally get relieved. All the East-West roads have been blowing closed.

I just got back from a lockout, and police impound. With the wind chill it's a balmy -41 here. Lotsa fun trying to unlock a car when you can't feel your fingers.
