With the end insight for my 32 ford, comes the one thing I have been dreading. How do I get a title and register my truck? it has the plate on the firewall but impossible to read and received no title or bill of sale when I got it. Any advise for me?

I was looking through this thread below and like I said above no bill of sale and would be pretty hard to find the previous owner, basically only know him by the name of dutch and that was 5 years ago. Who knows if he is even around anymore....

  2. before asking one of the most loaded questions that appears on the HAMB, you should probably go here and follow the few simple rules. Especially #6 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44274

Then do a search, there are more threads about this subject then probably anything else on here.
    So Welcome to the HAMB

  3. Don't worry about the plate on the firewall it was only a patent number plate and not involved with the registration. The number you need should be on the top left frame rail near the steering. You shouldn't have to remove anything to see it. Some of the bad news is that you should have handled the registration 5 years ago when the truck was worth a lot less since some of the fees/taxes are probably based on the value of the truck. There is a lot of information in the archives about this.

Well thanks for the help, as you see I did do a search, have a guideline to follow but am missing a bill of sale and my vin is not legible. Something I have not come across when searching...

Sorry that I did not introduce myself, was typing up an introduction when I checked on this thread because i saw a response. Never saw anything about having to introduce myself in my first post. Just figured I would post my main question before introducing myself...

Also I am pretty confident the frame is not a 32...I know the rails are original rails but not from a 32 pick up. Tomorrow I will have to check for numbers while I am down at my shop.

oklahoma just came out with a title 42 option a few yrs ago, see if arizona has anything like that, or go bonded title.

Interesting, seems pretty similar to what was said in the thread I referred to above, I like the idea of the bond so that I can keep the car even if someone comes forward saying it is theirs

If the truck doesn't have a stock frame you might be better off to approach things as if you built it from the ground up especially if you do have receipts for some of the major pieces such as the engine, trans and what not. It shouldn't be too hard to come up with a bill of sale for a 32 Ford truck cab and a frame of unknown origin. If you had the truck apart you do have a photo of the bare cab sitting on a pallet or on the ground and a photo of the bare frame and another photo of the engine sitting on the stand before you installed it??

You might think about getting a bonded title for it too. That may be less hoops to jump though and either will require an inspection.

That was another option I was looking into, I do have pics of just about everything but practically no receipts (dang craigslist haha)

Actually in AZ getting a title on a ground up build with no part having a serial/Id number is fairly easy. I showed up for my inspection with a large stack of receipts for most of the parts, however nothing for the body it's self. A hour and a half later I had a AZ assigned # and title/plates/reg and was headed back down the road. Titled as a 1927 Ford T roadster. Car was totally road legal for equipment.

Thats just what I wanted to hear. I always figured I would end up just going down there, play dumb, and see where it gets me. Heck even if they made me register it as a 2011 I could get it to pass emissions :D

Not knowing where "Table town" is ? I used the MVD branch on 59th Ave just south of Bell Rd in Glendale. One of the few offices that have nice help and can find their asses without using both hands.

I'll never understand why someone builds a car they don't have a title for. That should be the first thing done.

No offense, but a lot of us here build cars out of parts, sometimes fabricating bodies & frames, therefore no title. What can't be excused is not saving every receipt. I can't speak for AZ, but here in PA you can get a legal title & registration for a build from a pile of parts, as long as you have your receipts & pay your taxes. Many of us here have done that.

Here in Az. there are no taxes when we buy or build a car. I have applied for an abandoned vehicle title twice and it was smooth. One car had no Vin so they put an Az. vin tag in the door jam. Bonded would work fine, it takes a couple of years to get the title fully clean that way. I would be more worried if I bought a car doing that verses building one.

Go to a THIRD PARTY mvd place .......... it will be easy

  17. I dont think you even need a bill of sale? Try taking it to AAA. Its a lot easier than having to deal with the assholes at the DMV.

This is worth a try ... but sometimes these storefront operations will turn you away if the issue is something they've not dealt with before. I've used them to get title and registration on a vehicle from out of state, but they choked on a YOM plate for the 49. Had to go right to the Mesa Drive MVD.

I've had great luck with a place on dunlap and I-17, behind dennys

No offense taken. I don't know how many times in the past this same situation has been addressed. I know that many fab bodies, a fabbed frame is mostly a given for an early 30's on down build. Where there's a will there's a way. I won't spell it out in an open forumn. But anything can be bought

  21. well kanasas is somewhat of a pain. i have 65 cj5 in pieces. i wanted to transfer the title and registration to me when i acquired it. maybe this is slightly differnt becuase it came out of colorado. but they would not let transfer. they said it had to have an inspection and inssurance. well since it is in pieces its hard to get it inspected. i have had other problems with that dmv as well. but now i moved so we will find out if things are better here.

now i am not positive but i guy i work with had a vehicle that he was having trouble getting a title for. i think it had a payday loan on it or something. Anyway he could not get a title. he had all of his recipts and blah blah blah. he sold the car to a friend of his who had a dealers lisence. i was told that with a dealers lisence that he got the title right away and with no trouble. still a slightly differnt situation but if you have a good friend that has a dealers lisence you might have an easy in.

Thanks for all the help guys. Yeah, I know I should have done this from the very beginning, but didn't so now I have to do it now. Looks like I will be rounding up some receipts and taking those in and see what they say.

So looking back through a thread I made on another site 5 years ago when I started working on the truck I said the front half of the frame was a 32 frame so maybe the serial on the frame will be correct.
