Please pay attention very little in Mexico was computerized in '89. Not imigration, not the "DMV", nor state govt, nor civil registry. There is very little to understand here there was no "system" to crash. Perhaps there was a fire or a flood or even a theft but the system crashing was not probable. You have to have a system to have it crash.

I sincerely hope it works out for you. Your best bet is to get the doctor to do the legwork, as I and others have stated. If it's truly legitimate, he should be able to get a Mexican ***le fairly easily, and if he wants good money for the truck, he should be willing to do so.

No one likes to lose a "deal" that looks great;we all try to make it work, but this one could be very expensive. Remember, there was no VIN tag on this truck-the tag on the firewall was NOT a VIN. Like 95+% of all of them in 49, it was probably ***led with the engine number, so the loss of the tag on the firewall isn't significant. Get the numbers the dr. copied down and see what they are. Look at the pad next to the distributor and see what those numbers are. If they are the same, he goes and gets a lost ***le. This applies in the US too, as anything ***led with the engine number as a VIN is not verifiable after an engine change, and I have seen people loose big on this situation. The legal system only recognizes a certificate of ***le as ownership for a vehicle, and anything less brings on the legal system. I've had to walk away before and didn't like it either, but ***les these days are more important than almost any part. Someone will have to prove ownership to the customs agent at the border, and they have little tolerance for anything less than legal do***entation. It's your call.

The guy asking the question made a blanket statement calling everyone who thought this truck might be questionable/ stolen a racist because the rig is located in Mexico. I wouldn't buy a rig down the street with No ***le, No Vin Tag, and no Registration because the first thought to anyone with any common sense is "This thing might be stolen." Add to that all the Crossing the border trouble, ...talk about nightmare scenario. As for calling him as ***HOLE? Sure. I do that when somebody says "**** You" and calls me a racist. Hispanic in Mexico is La Raza or the race. A Mexican that is not an Indigenous Mexican is a mulatto a cross between European and Indigenous, that is predominately Spanish but not entirely confined to Spanish as over the years very few people on this earth have remained pure. So you want to call racists an ethicists? A Hispanic on this hemisphere is a cross between an indigenous person and a Spaniard. There are no indigenous Caucasian or Black peoples on this hemisphere. You want to mince words over something because it is hitting a little close to home? Remember a rose by any other name is still a rose.

It's like calling anyone remotely having a negative view on Islam (or Christianity, or Judaism, or...) a "racist". Islam is not a race, neither is "Hispanic". Hispanic IS an ethnicity, despite what the hate group La Raza (whose members are as racist as KKK members are!) says. Look up "Aztlan". Need I say more??? I've never understood why Spaniards are somehow considered separate by some, from all other European explorers, settlers, etc...they are from Hispanola, which is Spain and Portugal. So, how does that create a "race"??? There are only three races, and Hispanic is not one. That would be like saying that "Scandinavian" or "Puerto Rican" is a race. Obviously, they are not. Zman, that is precisely why such ignorant claims of "racism" are bandied about and leveled by far too many people, because they don't understand, or worse, refuse to understand, the difference between race and ethnicity. It's in the dictionary, look it up.
