I had a truck(49KB1 International) given to me by a family member. When I went to transfer the ***le the DMV shows a lien on it. the problem is the lien was tagged onto the truck 30 years ago. Does any one have any Idea how to solve this as the lien holder is a woman that at that time had bee married 4 times since then that my Uncle knows of and don't answer any mail I have sent to all the people I can find with the last known last name of this woman. What a mess. I have a ***le for another 49 but it is the long wheel base instead of the short that I have. The ***le is issued on the motor No. instead of the frame No. I can't believe the deeper I get in this thing the worse it gets.
I dont know if you got the right info but liens have a cut off point. I had a lien on my truck ***le but it was in 1958 and they didnt look twice at it. The notary told me what the cut off was but I dont remember now. She told me it should go through with no problems and it did.
go to the DMV and the form that the lien holder has to sign to release it. then go out in the parking lot and look real hard and you should be able to find her i got this advice one time from my local DMV/license bureau and it worked great. what you do with this advice is up to you
Maybe the woman lien holder died? Then I would think that truck would be part of her estate. Since on that vehicle the vin is issued of the engine number I would use the 49 ***le you have. But there has to be a process to go through on the ***le with the lien as to if no one can find the lien holder it should be able to be removed legally. Anouther thought, although slightly dishonest... would be to write up a paid in full reciept and sign her name.
A friend of mine actually had a ***le office clerk tell him that. He said MR. so and so is dead. She said go outside and find him, he did. Imagine that haha
Yeah, don't try it in NJ. My Chevy coupe is hung up in mid-air due to the A-holes at DMV. My ***le has a lein for $51.50 from 1941(it's a Wisconsin ***le). Wisconsin says that statute of limitations makes the lein null & void. NJ says they won't issue ***le to me until I have a lein release from the dealership or bank of the dealership marked on the ***le. Problem being they went out of business in the late 40's.
meh, don't worry about it...I second 36-3 windows advice, because I have gotten the same advice from the DMV before...for what it's worth. Worst case scenario, swap motors and use the clear ***le, that'll give you time to get the other ***le straightened out
I got a car thank you, I was wanting to ***le the pickup for a grand kid so he can start on this car disease. Whats wrong with a International? Do I have your permission to continue or call the junk yard?

when I need to find a person to sign off a ***le, bill of sale or lien, I send a registered letter to their address, if it does not get picked up by them, and is returned unopened to you, take it to the DMV. They typically consider this a true attempt to contact the person, and you were unsuccessful and unable to do so. They usually waive that signature at that time. A few hoops to go through, but its worth it in the end. Oh, and if the person does accept the reg letter, you have a receipt for that..with their signature on it. Do with that what you must.
send a certified letter to the address of the lein holder and when it returns unopened take that to the dmv with application for ***le.

I have a similar problem. I want to buy an old Buick. The current owner does not have a ***le. When I did a ***le search on it, there was a lien. Problem is that the lien is to a local bank that is no longer in business. The local registration office told me that the bank had to release the lien. Any ideas?

I p***ed up many trucks in a quest for an Advance Design Chevy. No VIN plate and no ***le can be a flaming *****. Even with a good out of state ***le and bill of sale, I waited to get confirmation all would be OK before I spent any money on the project. When a lot of money is at stake, don't rely on luck.
Now mind you I've heard of this being done with "missing" build sheets. (The 'Muscle Car guys" are notorious for a fake paper trail.) http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Paper-Look-Old "Create" a dealership letterhead then find someone with a typewriter,and type up a release from the dealership. The typing part is important,look at any do***ents pre-computer and you'll se that the letters don't line up exactly.
I feel you pain. I cringe every time I go to the DMV. It doesn't matter how well prepared you are, walk in with an out of state ***le for an 80 year old car and hey give you all kinds of grief.
Just went through the same thing with my T roadster,just recieved the ***le today, only took 4 months.
Who gives a **** if there are any famous ones. If you want famous build an AMBR worthy car or something.

That's what I had to do w/ an old lien on my F-250's ***le (bank went out of business YEARS ago).....good luck!
Take the ***le to court, pe***ion the judge to vacate the lien. Might be some waiting for responses from leinholder/heirs, but eventually a judge will vacate the lien or worse case, make you pay any claim to responders.
I like the parking lot hunt way, I did that for an old boat and it worked great. Good for you hot rodding what you have -no matter what it is! Thats what its all about.
Yeah you cant do Anything that everyone else hasnt done before that wouldnt be "traditional" better get a 32 so you know the cool police will be ok with it.
Hey in a Liberal state like Oregon why not find out how" they "want it done stop trying to end around it the correct way might be the easiest .
Sorry, didnt mean to have that taken serious, I was joking... ****... who am i to talk anyway, one of the last cars i was involved with was a street rodded rambler station wagon! Aint nothing wrong with an international, I've almost owned a couple and have worked on 'em a few times. They aint my first choice for a rod, but i'd love to have a decent one for a parts fetcher. As their old add said in the mid 60's "here is one truck that hasn't gone soft"
