I mentioned in another thread I have the possibility of setting up a roundtable discussion in M***achusetts about salvage vehicles and ***ling older vehicles. this is another question: In M***, ***le laws were not in place for cars until the early 70s. Once in place, if it was over ten years old you would not need a ***le, even a handwritten Bill of Sale would work. Now every vehicle requires a ***le, regardless of age. I recently bought two vehicles without ***les from New Hampshire and Vermont. those states do not require ***les, so as long as I had a notarized copy of the original registration it should not be a problem. However, the Vermont registration clearly states on it "Do Not give this Registration Certificate to the Purchaser of this Vehicle". The RMV told me Vermont does not make M***. laws, so wouldn't take it. Eventually everything worked out as I hoped and I was able to ***le the vehicles. We don't have "bonded ***les", etc. but I was hoping for some factual input to find out what the requirements are for each state as per if a vehicle needs a ***le, if it is for all cars or stops at a specific age, etc. Thanks
Florida, I have been down this road twice in the last 5 years. The first one (46 Ford pu) did not have a ***le or any paper work, only a bill of sale. Reading the fine print on a request for a ***le I noticed that the vheicle's VIN and odometer had to be verified by a Trooper, new or used car dealer with a notary. A friend of mine co-owned a used car dealership and was a notary. She agreed that only looking at the VIN plate and speedometer and an image of vehicle would satisfy the requirements of the DMV. Now prior to this I had been to three DMV offices to try to find a way to get a ***le...after three months I had it in hand. The second vehicle (63 bird) had a Georgia ***le but for some reason the seller did not sign it.....I bought it from another guy in Florida. I was going to use the procedure from my first adventure with DMV but I got a call that the original owner was was coming down to Florida and I was able to get him to sign the ***le to me.... P.S. there is no DOM plate requirement in FL, it only has to p*** an inspection in Tallah***ee that it is an ORIGINAL plate that has not been, restored, altered or stolen. I had a 1955 plate on my 46 and will be putting a 1953 on my 63.....unless I can find an original 63......
