Muntz Jet restyled by Audi engineers. Strip mining the past for corporate prestige is one thing...but when they screw it up...
If your talking about the show "Rides" I thought it was a good show. True they did restyle the Cobra but they had to create something new and fitting for the time. I would have done some things different as well as many others probably would have to but Carroll Shelby gave his stamp of approval so thats all that really matters in my book. It was really cool to see him behind the wheel doing what he loves to do!
Was it just me or did Jason Priestly speak each word like it was an entire sentence? Anyway. I. Think. This. Episode.*****ed. Maybe. It. Will. Get. Better. Billy
I liked it...it's gotta be tought to try to re do an icon like the original cobra. Anything they would have done would be open to ridicule from the folks who really dig the first one. And most if not all of us all do. Would I buy it? Dunno but it peels out pretty good. Could be worse we all could have watched Will and Grace.
For all the***** we give Monster Garage, American Chopper and Rides, they are still far better than anything else on. Take those three away and what have you got? Iron Chef? American F'n Idol? Anyway, next week's "Rides" episode looks pretty good.
You guys are so traditional your TVs are black n white. I enjoyed having something to watch. The new cobra has a KILLER exhaust note and it was nice to see a concept car doing donuts the way they should. Are you sure we saw the same show or are you just trying to 'fit in' by being a hater? Here's a link for those that missed it. -Dane
I watched it,and really didn't think it was that bad. The car, although not totally my 'style' was wild. I would much rather have an ole 427..but i can't afford either so it dosn't matter. Seeing the smile on Carrol Shelby's face was great!! He's 81, and had the opportunity to see a car he originally designed, be re-born in a sence.. Way cool to me. As far as Jason Priestly talking funny. I mentioned here i was suprised he was even narrating the show..he was in a really bad racing accident, and wasn't even able to talk. Pretty good recovery i'd say.. Not a total waste for me..I can't see myself going out of my way to watch it, but if i'm here and it's on, ok. but then again, thats just me and i aint right anyway. Rat..
I watched tonites episode- And I enjoyed it. I think they might be headed in the right direction. It was hypeless- in my opinion,WHICH IS GOOD.I was expecting less so all in all I would watch it again- next time its Troy- I know him and like him so I'll be there......
I really enjoyed it for what it was. A good car show about the building of a SKILLION dollor concept/show/prototype. Alot of that type of work is done here in town and is very top secret. So just seeing the place they were doing all the different phases of the build I found very interesting. And then at the end to see Carol Shelby himself hammering on the car and doing dougnuts was awsome. The lack of fake drama was refreshing too. I'm sure the show will have more to offer each of us in the future episodes.
[ QUOTE ] Are you sure we saw the same show or are you just trying to 'fit in' by being a hater? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, we did watch the same show. No, I'm not a hater. I was giving my opinion of the episode. Furthermore, if I thought I had to "Fit in" I'd wait to hear what you had to say & just agree with you so everyone will like me. Billy
I loved the show. It was nicely put together. Not alot of bullcrap thats wastes time. And i think it showed some nice key parts of the build. They didnt try have a star of the show or a focus point other than the car. The show was very straight forward. Lastly, the car was awesome, the sound of it driving was like Angels making beutifull music for my listening pleasure. Nick P.S. If you want to see a bad show, TRY to catch Street Rodder TV on ESPN on one of its crazy times. Then you will know what a horrible television program is.
I liked that it showed...just like Hot Rods... sometimes you gotta grind stuff to make it fit. AND even with the best computer equiptment it takes two or three trials to get it right. Hell, if you could look past the guys in ties...it looked like a bunch of HOT RODDERS tryin' to get some new multi-carb set up to run a little leaner....my 2 cents.... Can't wait till the next show.
At least I was running on the treadmill while I wathced it, so I was kinda a captive audience. I didn't think it was too bad, I wish they coulda showed more of the actual fabrication but I don't think the general viewing public would enjoy that part of it. When I first saw the car I didn't really like it but the more I looked at it the more I started to recognize similarities to the original Cobras I started to appreciate it alittle more. The coolest part was definately watching Shelby do brodies. I'll probably watch it again.
thought it was great when carrol was talking about taking it to the drift comp. lol nice nervouse laughter from the suites lol

[/ QUOTE ] Dan, i feel the same way. Skipstitch, I think it is cool that the guy had the cut off some threads to get the hinges or hood to go on. And i also liked that they mentioned the guys staying there till 630 to get it runnin. Its not like they just bolted it together, they had to do plenty of work.
I thought the show was well done, some of the behind the scenes stuff was interesting. The actual car wasn't exactly my speed, but there will be a wide variety of subjects covered in other episodes. I did NOT miss the temper tantrums and yelling that other shows seem to think should be manditory.
Best part was seeing Caroll Shelby doing donuts in the concept car..i bet the build team were*****ting their pants during that shot... i enjoyed it..nuthin else on
Did not care for the body restyling, but that engine note.........!!!!! Also dug the part where C.S. was doin donuts in the "old" Cobra and then again in the "new" Cobra.
Saw just the last half. liked it. Id drive the piss out of that thing then put it on greed bay ya turn it into lots of hot rod and early ford parts
ha! yeah I just saw that "thing". How did they pull off the modern GT40 so well and screw up the cobra so bad?
I dug the show and the evident enthusiasm of the crew...but the styling... The GT40 was drawn by a human being on a drafting table. A human hand did not generate even one curve of the new Cobra, it was a keyboard job. Just like the Victory motor cycle, it was a CAD job. The human touch that all Hambers lose sleep over is entirely missing from the body design. Ask any striper on the board- they can probably define the new Cobras design failure a lot better than me. Foiled?
Great to see Carrol. Didn't like the restyle.Expected more after last years Mustang.. Loved the design work and R&D scenes. The engine was awesome. The cost of that new (daisy) went up 2 Million dollars when Carrol signed the dash. The very best part was to watch the old Cobras, particularly the original frst 1962 model come out of the trailer. The silver (Chrome?) one is definitely the best looking car that was on the show. Looking forward to more episodes.
The best part..... NO FAKE DRAMA!!!!! But was it realy C. S. doing the donuts or a double?? Never show him up close during that part.
I liked the show. The best part? No axxxholes went off on each other and stomped out of the room in a temper tantrum. There was no big mouth who always had to have the final say. It was good to see a show where people actually enjoyed working together. Carroll was awesome!!!! I hope I can be that cool at 81....Oh well,I never was,so I guess that's out... But I didn't like the re-style. Too boxy.
