Because the memories of fallen military buddies and friends, and thinking of the good times...I think that "Happy Memorial Day" is an appropriate salutation. Having the privlege of knowing some of the folks that I did in my military career that are no longer here, and thinking of my memories of them; yeah, in fact, that does make me happy. Sad that these people are gone, but happy in my memories of them.
Good lord, what a bunch of woman! Do we have to cry and bitch about everything on here? If someone say's its gonna rain on wensday sombody would say no, sundays for raining. If someone wants to thank the vets that have died do it, if someone wants to thank all vets do it! Why cant you leave it alone, if ya think its not right move on! My 2 cents, and yes im a vet and know plenty who have died. Every day should be veterans day!
Not knocking it and having lost my share of brothers and knowing we go into harms way yet again does not make it any easier. I do and always will look back at the time we spent together with happy memories... Thank you all Sgt Michael Swaggerty Strike Force 101st ABN DIV Air Assault OIF 05-06, 07-08 OEF 10-....
"Memorial Day remembers the fallen. Veteran's Day remembers the living veteran. If pointing that out to you offends you, then there is nothing I can do for you." Doesn't offend me. I just think it is stupid. When the OP is just trying to thank our veterans you feel the need to express your seemingly vast knowledge of our country's holidays as if us backward folks did not already know this tidbit of information.
One thing my family and I hold dear to our hearts is that freedom comes at a great cost. We work hard to never dishonor them and revel in the life they have afforded us. Proud to be an AMERICAN!!!!!!!!
We should all appreciate the "ultimate sacrifice" that so many brave men and women of our Military have made over the years-- THAT'S what Memorial Day is REALLY about (It's not just about saving 1/3rd off a brand new sofa bed with matching sheets and pillowcases at the local Mall)... I was thinking to myself, as we are currently witnessing the continuous inept fumbling of those "experts" who still can't plug up that d*rn offshore oil well-- I think to myself, gee whiz, if you just took a few of the kind of men and women who served in World War II-- That's right, the kind of men and women who were part of "Our Greatest Generation", and you gave them the assignment of stopping the leak, I betcha dollars to donuts they'd have that thing plugged up in a matter of hours... Our "Greatest Generation" didn't waste their time trying to come up with "ridiculous hairbrain schemes" that would cost way too much money and not even work-- No Sir-ee Bob!-- The brave and courageous individuals of "Our Greatest Generation" would waste no time in getting down 'n' dirty and straight to the knitty gritty of the problem, they'd do WHAT EVER IT TAKES and get the problem solved-- And they'd do so in a timely fashion-- Yeah, I know, I know, it's a whole new world these days, that's what everyone tells me... But please, please, let's all take a moment to think of those who gave so much, and didn't ever whine or complain about it-- They knew there was a job to do, and by golly, they also knew what they needed to do to get the job done right... Memorial Day should be a day when we all dedicate some time to give solemn remembrance to those members of our U.S. Military who so selflessly sacrificed for all of us... I also posted this on another thread,.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=479183 This year, like in years gone by,... I will remember some faces, names, smiles, jokes, tears, etc. of those that will forever remain young in our hearts and minds,..... For all that have given the greatest sacrifice in defense of THE GREATEST NATION ON EARTH (IMHO). A most heart felt, and humble Thank You from the bottom of my heart, your sacrifice was not in vein,... (this point is amplified as I look around at my family, My Wife, My Children,... and my Grandson) We will always remember that Freedom is not free,.... and you were willing to pay the price. GOD Bless you all! Paid in full ! This "Tough lil' Marine" knows first hand the price of Freedom,.... Please remember this, This weekend,... Least we forget ,.....
One visit to arlington national cemetary, the wall, and other mermorials in D.C. will show the sheer numbers of men and women who have paid the ultimate price. Remember freedom isn't free.
I always make an effort to say thanks to men or women in uniform, just cause I know that I don't have the kahuna's to sacrifice what they are. So a big ole thank you! To those the keep me free.
I mourn those that paid the ultimate price. ps; Their memory is being marred by those that want to editorilize. They can't hear you.
