Looking at picking up a 54 - complete and dry. Been sitting for years - Here's what the seller says about it: it has a 6cyl. overhead valve motor w/ very low miles, a rebuilt auto trans, the trans has no miles on it, but was put in many yr. ago. we have the ***le. the interior is all there, but has deteriated from the sun & time, all the windows are in it. all the lights are there. thanks How much would you guys say I should pay for it?
Unfortunately, in today's economy and political climate that car is probably only worth s**** value - $200-300 dollars. It would cost far more to restore it than it would be worth in $$$ so it represents a very poor investment value. It has excellent potential as a parts car and/or a car to part out and sell on e(vil)Bay. Could be a big money-maker if you've got the time and energy to photograph, advertise, pack and ship the parts. Unfortunately, cars like this one are on Craig's List here in Texas all the time...and seldom sell. They usually just sit where they are and rot some more because the owner thinks they are worth far more than what they realistically are. Good luck making a decision.
Thanks Missysdada - I don't think i"d restore it - I was thinking just get it running/driving and p*** it along. If could make a couple bucks and get it back in use I'd do it.
I'd limit my top dollar to somewhere below $500, and if I had some space on my lot to store stuff like this on, I'd ****** them all day for around $250, just to have on hand for parts.
Yup, concur with y'all. $200-$300, and certainly no more than $500 - and even that might be a bit high. Unless you find a purist who wants 6 cylinder, automatic, 4 door .... sorry & don't hit - but to me, that's 3 strikes against the car already. And if bought for parts, consider the time to strip, clean, pack, ship. . . I have a POS '54 that's in much worse shape, only reason I'm keeping it is to strip a few of the accessories (P/S, P/windows, P/seats, 239 Yblock) and maybe the hood hinges if they're worth saving, out of it then it's gonna be gone.
Well - I have the 55 I did for my dad (will have one day) and I am buying a 54 driver now so maybe I'll just grab it for spare parts and park it. Asking price is $250.
For $250 it's a good deal, from the pics I don't see major cancer in the usual places and looks like the gl*** is good too, first thing is get PB Blaster and lube those hood hinges to the max! after sitting for a long time thats when they will bend easily when you start using them dry.I was just on ebay last night these cars are not as cheap as they once were, just look at our membership too, 183 of us and we just started the end of May!
Tell him you'll clean up his property for him by hauling off this car and not even charge him for it!
