Another vote for straight post. No post makes the side windows look way too long.

i can't tell from the pics, but are the front doors the sedan doors or are they from a 2 dr car? if they are the the stock doors, i'd do straight posts. if they are from a 2 dr, slanted posts. since the 4 dr front doors are shorter than the 2dr, i wouldn't slant them because it would make the rear windows too big and out of proportion with the front windows. just my opinion.

so many "hardtopped" cars are just messed up. people remove the post and call it a day. then there are wierd transisions between the door and the front post, no side gl***, or if there is side gl*** it is ****ed up 9 times out of 10.

I'd say to get a proper hardtop out of a post car would take more time and effort than the chop and 2 door conversion combined.

As you can see, the response from the traditional folks is going to prefer keeping the post. The hardtop look puts a way too modern swing on this car.

If Boyd was voting, I would wager that he would go for the hardtop.

What you have so far is lookin' good. Forget about the hardtop thing.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

I like some of the '49-50 chevs and ponchos I have seen, yet I do know this a "way out" and the gl*** would be a pain in the ***.

Slanted post? I would need to see a chopped '49-50 style with slanted post first. Suppose I could PhotoChop it... Hum

For the record: I bought a wasted 1949 two door Coupe body shell and cut the 1/4's and snagged the doors. So this will look as it was always a two door from the inner panels to the roof.

Keep the feedback coming fellas, I need all the fire I can lit under my ****!

I agree with whomever said the sedan top is too long for a HT.

For what it's worth, I would slant the post. I'm in the process of slanting my 53 chevy and I am going to slant my 51 merc. I looked at the video by Gene Winfield on making a hard top merc and going through what you have to do to get side gl*** and parts you need to fabricate to get the gl*** on the door and side gl*** to seal and I thought to myself, **** thats an awful lot of work and it doesn't look that much better. Regardless of what anybody thinks, do what you want to do and it will be cool whichever you chose! Thanks BOBBY FORD

i think your 1/4 windows look odd weather it is the size of the panel between the rear gl*** and 1/4 window or where you put the curve.

Are you referring to the car in the picture or my project?

OK so I decided to go "post".
Thank you all for you input, it helped!

I moved the rear window lower curved section back some from where I had placed it before so the rear window is larger and more in proportion.

Here is the p***enger side just about all ****oned up. Getting closer...
