As all of us grow older, and some need to downsize, the question of what to keep or discard comes to the forefront. In my case I'm losing some storage space. The items in question were a set of SBC heads & intake I harvested a number of years ago. The casting number is 3886336 containing 1.94 intakes and from what I have found out 76cc chambers. Not much info online other than the number may contain an X suffix, mine do not. They were in a '71 Impala 4 dr. HT and were coupled to a K14 intake manifold with a 4bbl to 2 bbl adapter, carb was gone. It appears someone had smoothed the exhaust ports and ran dual gl*** packs .The "K" usually refers to Chev truck stuff. Are these worth saving?
Keep in mind, my "fun" cars are Buick/Olds powered , although I want to build a 327 for the future.

K 1 4 is a date code for the end of 1974....but it could be something else? :)

If my "to keep or not" questions were only one pair of heads and intake, I'd think I never had any decisions to make!

Good luck with your decision, you know you'll never need that stuff until you get rid of it

There's more than just that to decide, lol

  4. Give them to a guy that will give them back if you happen to need them. If he happens to use them in the meantime- super.

These kind of decisions are always hard because it often means you have to give up a dream. Don't know where your at in the process, or how far into it you plan on going. When I first started clearing out my clutter, there were a lot of things that were very easy to dispose of. A lot of the stuff I "saved" had me asking myself the question "Exactly why was I keeping this?" Those things were easy to get rid of. Honestly, I was surprised just how much junk I kept all those years and I had no idea why.

That stuff "I'm tired of tripping over it all the time." is pretty easy to get rid of too.

After the easy stuff, the next level was the "How much is it going to cost me to actually use this stuff?" This one really was not much harder to dispose of then the "why was I keeping this stuff? And the stuff you were "tired of tripping over" part of my "collection'. Your heads and intake may fall into the group. To use them you need to buy the rest of the short block (a 327 short block to boot), then to really use your heads and intake, the 327 short block needs to be rebuilt and its rally likely you will want to have your heads rebuilt as well. You have stated that your fun cars are Buick/Olds powered, which means you will need either a trans or a bell to add more cost to being able to use the heads and intake. Rebuilding motors these days is neither cheap, nor easy. Many rebuilders won't touch a motor that can't be converted to a roller cam. Just how bad do you want to build that 327, and what are you going to put it in? If you add up the numbers, it may not be as hard to send the heads and intake down the road as you first thought it was going to be. If you still can't decide, move on to something else. Heads and an intake don't take up that much space. You can slide them onto a shelf and deal with them the next downsize time.

Another good question line is "Who do I know that wants, needs, can, or will use this?" If you just know someone is going to use what you have saved for years, its easier to send away.

Just start by getting rid of the easy stuff first. If you still need to get rid of more stuff, just go over what is left and remove the easier stuff from that pile. By about the 3rd or 4th round, your mind will probably take on a different perspective. You may be fine with getting rid of everything, or you may reach the point where you are keeping everything that is left, or you may make a list of what you are keeping, and everything not on that list is going to be gone (I reached the 3rd option).

Over half the books I got rid of at the swap meet went free to youngsters that showed interest.
Hard to verify strangers who show up if you place an ad, but if there is a local tech school, they could always use them or find a good home.

Thanks to all who replied. Gene and RodStRace much of your advice is stuff I've done,(leading me to think I'm on the right track) p***ed a great
deal of it unto others who may have use of it. Knowing if I needed it, they would gladly return it, or giving stuff and knowledge to the young cats who are on the same page as us.
We seem to have a common mindset, as I had already done as other suggested above before I read their posts
