-That´s what I was gonna say...That´s a classy car, do Yourself a favor and keep it that way. It was THE best-engineered, and just about the most expensive offering by the most competent automaker in the history of automobiles that year. Looks a 100 times better reflecting that and its place on the top of the foodchain of its respective era.
Your "shaving" -idea alone has a really low-rent, rodently ring to it. Sorry.
And scallops, too. Especially the prongy kind. They also may look just absolutely "badass" on a POS, flat-black flake-roof ´51 4dr Plymouth at the parking lot of a rockabilly show. Or the ´76 Toyota parked across the street from said show. (Also flat black, BTW.)
-Just not Your car. Again..., sorry.
In regards to this thread, and your previous one about "customizing ideas" for this car, if You want my input, I´d strongly suggest that You concentrate on getting it road-worthy as the first thing, familiarize Yourself with all the most complex moving parts of this car that make it function like it should, and get some enjoyment out of driving this thing to places! I´m just saying this because I see You have a most pristine example of a car where anything missing would be most difficult to replace. I wouldn´t start contemplating on modifications (as non-user-friendly on top of everything else) such as shaved door handles or tearing into paint and body of that nice of a car if in fact You´re still missing side glass and the whole thing is not even on the road.
As an aside, all the best "custom" ideas I ever saw applied anywhere, were something that were in line with and amplified the style, lines and character of the car itself, most evidently something that grew out of prolonged attention to the car and its design itself, not something that someone just randomly applied out of some catalog of most revered custom tricks and came out on top with. If it were my car, I might (in time) just put OE-style wire wheels and wide whitewalls on it, maybe lower the stance a bit, and (later yet) repaint it in some pearl-metallic color of my liking with a period-correct upholstery to match. Anyway, one of the most interesting project vehicles I´ve seen on this site, best of luck.

Ok so I like to plan ahead, and I really want to know what my caddy would look like with mild scallops. I've realized that major scallops wouldn't work with a car that has as many lines at the '58, however what would mild scallops that highlight the stainless and such look like? (think Watson's crimson '59) I am sticking to my colors, dark crimson red pearl, and a white pearl roof, and if I did scallops they would also be a white pearl. What does a girl have to do to get one of the HAMB photoshop gods to do a rendering????

It looks good the way it is right now, but...it is your car and you should do whatever you like the best. I think some will like it and some will hate it, like anything else we do to our cars. It is all a matter of someones opinion, in the end, you need to be happy with it.

With that color combo in mind you oughta give this car another look. It's really more of a panel job than true scallops, a classic example of "less is more." The master, Larry Watson, who did some pretty wild stuff, showed restraint when it came to his Caddys...

Froghawk, that is the kind of paint that I want. I just posted that I want to do a paint job similar to that, but I want to know what it would look like on a Caddy, either paneling or scallops that just highlight the stainless. I just need someone to photoshop it. Can anyone help a lady out and photoshop it for me, pretty please :D

KaddyKimber...as a graphic artist (see, another thing you didn't know about me...!!!), I would not put scallops on your Caddy...

However...and here's the big 'what if'...what if you did scallops in a pearl flip-flop, or a darker pearl...in other words, scallops only when the sun hits certain parts of the car.

I don't think you've see my '40 Studebaker coop, but that lime green paint on there has flames done in pearl flip-flop over the entire front of it (sometimes known as "ghost flames")...next time you see the car take a look...

At least, there's another option for you...

    Sorry, I can't do photoshop...

Yep, you did say that didn't you... Sorry. Being a guy I was probably only partly listening.

Anyway, here's a quick Photoshop on kind of a sucky photo of a '58 Caddy. Might need to be more subtle than this...

Froghawk, Yes, thank you!!!! That is what I was thinking. Some drama to it, but not over the top.

Roger, I did think about doing ghost scallops on the car, maybe doing a simpler paint and adding more flake to certain areas. I had also thought about ghost leopard spots inside the scallops (I really like leopard, I know most HAMBers would hate this idea). I just know it takes a very talented painter to make that come out looking right. And, no, I have not seen you '40, but it sounds like I need to one of these days!

My thoughts exactly. I could definitely see your Caddy painted like this. BTW, paint is not permanent. If at some point some of the restorer crowd on here want to buy your car and repaint it stock, let 'em!

It's not mine, it's my dad's but I do have a set of keys for it and
probably put more miles on it last summer than him. LOL

Haha Roger, I'm sure we thought the same thing when we read that. It's a Kustom Kadillac, if I wanted a stocker I wouldn't be on this board :D It's takes a brave soul to modify a solid Caddy, but it will be amazing when it's done.

That '57 is awesome, and right along the lines of "mild kustom" that I want mine to be. I think the subtle highlights bring out the lines of these cars!

That a great lookin unit - No scallops - too big a car with way tooooo many features already and it would hurt the value as far as resale when U decide to do it , much larger audience without them. Thers a gorgeous 62 merc 2 dr hrtp near me and it has been for sale for ages and its sitting because of white scallops on a gorgeous blue body.

mild scallops might bring out the beauty, Larry Watson's 59 caddy is sheer inspiration!
