I have been throwing this back and forth for months and want your opinions. I bought this super nice model a coupe (just wanted a body) and this came along so I jumped at it. I was planning a highboy but the fenders on this are super nice and I like how it looks. Problem is I don't make that much money and buying speed parts usually means selling parts. I have an intake already and enough to buy a head but I still need headers, a fsi dizzy, a cam and other small stuff. So, do I loose the fenders and boards to buy the speed parts???
No way...looks great with the fenders. Keep em. Are you talking speed parts for the A engine? If it is driveable now ... drive it ... save for the "speed" stuff and add as you get.
Naw, keep those fenders and enjoy it until you can afford the other things. Really all that thing needs for it to be "complete" is a drop axle form Jordan Graham and a reversed eyed spring and call it done for a while. It's perfect!!!
That patina should not be disturbed, sell the car and take the profit and buy a body. You will probably come out way ahead, because that is a nice little coupe.
You can't be serious, that car is amazing and looks Great! Keep saving up for the parts you need, it will be worth the wait. IMHO, Koolkat-57
be differant and keep the fenders man if you wanna send the whole thing down the road.........well I guess .... for you .... i could make some room in my garage you know cause I am helpfull like that
Thanks for the replies, I already put a reversed eye leaf in the front, that is why it is a tad lower than norm. Yes, the 4 is staying, runs like a champ. I have two stromberg 81's for it and a intake, plus a winfield head.
I have a no wife fund... I get bonuses at work.. they go right into a envelope at work... she dont know...
Just got engaged but she lets me do what I want as long as it is "CAR FUND" money. She likes the fenders too because she can sit on the running boards.
I understand but we don't make **** when it comes to money, I have to give over 85 percent of my check every week to pay the mortgage and other bills so it leaves not much for the A. I buy low and sell high to fund the coupe.
I also have the semi-secret car fund, it's called WDK (wife don't know) money. She actually knows I'm spending money 'cause parts keep showing up. Car looks awesome as-is. Do not change a thing on the exterior!!! Sounds like you already have most of the speed parts you need. Just keep packing a little money away (one less big gulp, cup of coffee, lunch at burger king, or pack of smokes) and you'll get there. keep on keepin' on....
I do like the fenders, hence the I don't know what to do! Maybe some more of the other parts I have should go up on the block to fund the rest of it.
You won't find a set of fenders as nice as those to replace them with down the road. I would keep it together. 85% to paying bills. That leaves 15% for car parts. If you have cable, drop it. If you have two phones, get rid of one. Eat sandwiches instead of fast food. No movies. Make the cuts somewhere else. Neal
Oh I know Tim King, we are buds. He likes it the way it is too. I am just trying to get it to where I want it to be, I drive it everywhere as it is. Just need a little more "vroom"
dont change a thing! The car runs and drives as-is so the parts arent absolutely necessary at the moment. The cash for speed parts will come eventually.
The secret to a car on a budget is to do it the way I do it. When I bought my '50 Chevy I bought a '65 Impala also - in 10 days I sold the Impala and more than doubled my total money invested, I had the car, and profit. The Chevy needed most of the gl*** replaced so I went to a yard I knew about and bought most of the gl*** and a pair of Olds Rocket valve covers. The valve covers sold on eBay for $3 short of what I spent in total to buy everything. The last of the gl*** I traded a Chevy coupe for another Fleetline with the right gl***, even swap. The seats in it came out of a $300 parts car that I stripped, s****ped the body for $250 or so, sold the motor/trans for $500, the dash for $100, taillights and rocker trim for another $150 or so, and I still have a bunch of pieces left. Other pieces are you-pull-it yard stuff - cheap. And the motor/trans combo is coming out of a $500 beater I drove myself for about four years and more than got my $$$ out of. Now if you want to keep your fenders, set some money aside, and go track down something you can flip on the side and make a few bucks. Put half that money in the car fund and go find something else to resell out with the other half. It won't be as easy as it's been in this economy, but with a little time you should be able to wheel and deal your way to enough money, or the parts you want, to build the car just how you choose.
you said you buy low and sell high to fund your cars. Just keep what you are doing, the money will come and in the end you will have the fenders still and they won't be something you will be looking for later. Great car
