Long story,so if your a piss ant negative=don't bother and stop now.
I had today off,and was expecting some parts from my painter, who showed up at 5:30pm. In the garage is my project(50 Merc),and my Dad's 65 C-10 PU.
    Again,long,but here's the jist.....He ask's about the truck,and my plans.....
See,Dad p***ed away 3 yrs ago,and I explain i'm just the caretaker.....I built it for Him,and for my Mother,RIP,to be bulletproof, and go anywhere with the total reliabillity/safety factor.

So today as my painter is dropping off parts,I show him pictures of the whole build, and he say's- That pic is in a mag I have.
    Me-WTF?
    Him- ya,I'll be right back.
So now i'm ****ting bricks, fumbling, loosing it.....
See- I wrote to Cl***ic Trucks about the story of the truck, and it was ONLY for my Pop=Not me!
He returns with a mag,and i'm afraid to look....
I do,and here's the story I wrote about things, and the way things were happening.
    That was 2007 when i sent the pics,and TODAY,Feb 21-2011,I see this.....
Needless to say,I'm happy, sad, and dropped to my knees more than once tonight....
Thought I would share with my friends..........
The pic is the day I handed him the keys.
    Love your parents-once they're gone,that's it.
    Thanks-Kid

That's Awesome!! I have always hoped to do a build for my pops but he always seems to be a step ahead of me- but it's cool to build them with him.

Your Awesome, Enjoy "caretaking" the truck- you know your pops would have it that way!

  7. I can imagine that part of your day being almost surreal and emotional. Sounds like you and your dad had a tight bond. Makes a guy think about what's important. Thanks for the thread.

I completely understand what you mean by the good-bad-good day thing. My dad has left this world as well so I cherish all of the good memories and moments we shared knowing that we truly had a great father-son relationship. I only wish I had more time with him because losing your dad at 21 ****s pretty bad.

This memory of yours is a very wonderful memory. That picture is just awesome and shows just how much you loved your father, as well as how good a father he was to you. That picture just speaks way more than "a thousand words." That picture is just indescribable and that's what makes it so priceless.

    You did good. Really.

Cool story, so lets see the article.

  16. I understand the feeling...... pride? After having given my parents the 38 coupe that has been in the family for an awful long time.
Though the mix of feelings if it turned up in a mag like that would be hard to take, hard to know what to think!
I would say it's pretty much all good, yeah there are the old memories that would come along and knee cap you but they would all be based in good memory's.
    Thumbs up mate.

    Doc.

It is great that you got the truck done and your Dad got to enjoy it.... This story does your dad proud.... I have my dad's old 33 pickup that he had for over 50 years and he never got it running.. I got it from him and did get it on the road and took Dad for his first ride in it on his 81st birthday. Sadly 3 months later Dad past away... But just like you I have the memories and can still see him smile every time I get in the truck...

  18. Actually Kid I was having a negative day. Not any more. Thanks

I built a '66 for my mom once I still have the jack from it. You got the truck, cool.

Great Story! My dad was into old stuff years ago and sometimes he drives the 4 hours down here to help work on the trucks. Years ago I bought a '54 Lincoln Capri and didnt have a clue about positive ground wiring or generators. He came over and got it running for me just because he wanted to see it run. I agree with your sentiment, If you are still lucky enough to have your father around, let him know it.

I'm at the "once they're gone-that's it" point of that statement. Truer words were never spoken........and you are a fantastic son.

Great story, I was going to build a car for my dad but he always found something wrong with every project car that we found or looked at. I'll have to look for that issue as I let my subscription run out.
