Here is the 39 Ford standard coupe I just brought home today. I did not discover it, but another hot rod friend of mine found it, bought it, then sold it to me for a little profit. I had to give $4000 for it, but it has a REALLY solid body, only a little pin hole/ lace rust in the floors, and a few spots in a fender here and there. It has all mouldings, garnishes, etc. Missing the ash tray, seat, and p*** side rear quarter stainless, otherwise the body is complete, and again SOLID!! Frame on the other hand was pretty well butchered, all X members removed, and I mean all, then boxed, it has tem X members front and rear to keep it together. So I will also be looking for a good ch***is for it as well. It also has a GOOD ***le, that was icing on the cake. Trunk lid is in awsome shape, and came iwth some NOS parts like grill and hood latch ***y. I'm pretty happy for the most part, cheaper would have been better, but 39' Standards don't grow on tree's! I had one several years ago, but had to sell, so I finally got a replacement. No plans for it as of now, just putting it into storage. I have to finish my 34 first and get my 63 and 53 Fords back on the road first.
Congrats! Looks like a solid body, indeed! I love those bodies, so elegantly designed. They are are ***y as a curvy woman. The designers back then really had a great eye for style. What's the plan for it?
Hey Ed.....Congrats Man...I know how your feelin. Those Coupes are very kool......Good Luck with it. Maybe we can share some notes during our builds. Murph
I would have sold a lot of my good stuff for that one! It's a lot better to find a frame than to fix rust!! Well worth what you paid for it!
YOu won't get hurt with that one. All of the important stuff is good and the rest can be had for decent prices. Frank
Looks real solid - congrats. I am a real fan of late 30s coupes and have a '38 Dodge bus coupe I started wiring this weekend.
I gots me a 39 standard, too! The only thing missing on mine was the hood latch base (it was broke)....never found a good one but I see Bob Drake now re-pops em!
