Hot Rods Today's Score - Pierce Arrow Gauge Cluster

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bib Overalls, Nov 27, 2010.

  1. I'm always trading stuff with my friend and fellow displaced Southern California hot rodder **** (Bandit) Valenzuela. Today we cooked another one of our deals. He got a 60 gallon compressor tank that I didn't need and I got a bench top belt sander.

As I was leaving ****'s shop this evening he asked if I had settled on a gauge cluster for my Model A coupe project. I answered "No." He responded with "Why don't you use this" and pulled a crusty old Pierce Arrow unit out of a cabinet.

The cluster looks like it was made for the Brookville Roadster 32 style dash that I will be running. I'll do a trial fit tomorrow.

The gauge holes are perfect for the Stewart Warner "Wings" gauges that I will be running. If I replace the insert with engine turned stainless steel I will use the same layout.

The cluster frame is high quality pot metal and quite heavy. It has a flat back and angles out at the bottom. This gives the gauges a slight face up orientation.

The art deco spears at the bottom are ***s. I am stoked.

Anyone know what year Pierce Arrow donated the cluster?

  2. I am trying to decide the inside of mine, the outside I am polishing right now. Is that stocker woodgrain or marbelized?

  3. Marbelized I think. Kind of hard to tell.

  4. That's a neat piece!

Great Find..It is a 31-34'. I am using one for my 32'. You will have to modify the dash if you want the reveal to show under the bezel. If that doesn't matter, you can just attach it as is and it will hang about an inch below the dash. FPM Metals has an engine turned insert that will fit the bezel.

Great score Steve! It looks like there will be little work to pull that off.

Very nice! You sure have a good friend that thinks more of you and your project than making a buck on things.

  15. I did pay something for it. Not much. But enough to keep my conscience clear. The only thing **** and I fight over is the check when we have breakfast at the cafe.

  16. Take a look at the thread I linked. You need to grind the back and it fits a 32 dash like a glove.

It's a 32 and 33 Pierce Arrow Senior series dash cluster used on Series 52 and 1236, 1242, and 1247. I have seen quite a few on ebay the last two years, and they bring more money with the hot rod builders than the Pierce guys. Seems to be more dash clusters than Pierce cars left. Always happy to answer PA questions. ... Ed
