Today at least here in Finland it seems to be harder and harder to score real finds at your local swap meet specially if your intrests are on hot rod and kustom world. Anyway today I was prowen otherwise. We were having a nice saturday at swap meet in Nurmes in Finland with my family and wandering along without any specific in mind to buy, when suddenly in the middle of all household junk and european car parts i spotted a hubcap, which I immediatly recognized as a 1957 Plymouth wheelcover because I have been collecting some 50´s kustom hubcaps and as known the 1957 Plymouth hubcap was quite popular in late 50´s and early 60´s mild customs. So the story goes on as I thought even it was just one hubcap, it would make a nice wallhanger and I asked the man, what he would like to have for it. Then he dropped the real bomb for me, when he said that he have the rest 3 of them somewhere in back of his trailer, if I´m intrested! Well what do you think I answered? He set the whole four of them in front of me and said, that they are from some american car and would 10€(somewhere in 10 dollars at your value) be to much asked for them. Even here, where you can usually double the asking prices compared to prices at U.S., I had to say, I take´em. The picture is taken after washing them, they are not perfect(except one nearly), they have some dents, but they are restorable. Now they are on my garage wall, as I have 57-58 repop lancers on my -57 Chevy and I like´em too. Please post here, what nice finds you have found at your local swap meet.
Plymouth cones......favorite wheel cover of my old bud Mike Gator Gaydos... I have at least 2 sets in the rafters...
Fury cones, at least that's what we called them in my home town. They are still one of the all time great looking hubcaps.
If you have picture of your dads car with those caps, I would appreciate it very much, if you could post it here.
Wish I did- folks are in PA ,while I've been in GA for 12 years now... will give a call and see if he'll loan me a couple pics- I can tell you that it did look really nice! Dad's 57 was a harbor blue Bel Air convertible with white top, but he removed the aluminum insert on the rear quarter and used a wagon rear bumper to move the license plate from the trunk to the bumper. He had the 270hp engine with 2x4 intake and overdrive trans with Corvette gears (I still have the OD ).
