I think of going as a trip too lower stupid level of hell. Here's a Q they asked me for some years back, engine block # stamped in to my V8 Y-block by factory,I care fully tell them Ford did not do that too Y- block Fords in USA. I show them Ford info sheet, they say they must have #. Never mind how stupid it got from there ! Had to go too a def. office with guy with tiny mind, but much much bigger then first guy.

For the amount of people and vehicles the State of California has to deal with, the DMV here does a pretty good job. Most of the issues I see at the DMV are self-inflicted.
However, I do use AAA when I can. And if I ever need a complicated transaction taken care of (such no title or vehicle out of the system, etc.), I will go to a registration service.
BTW, I spent 2 hours at the DMV on Monday with my kid as she picked up her personalized license plate.

Here the DMV and not taking Credit cards. Is that the Fees and Fines are set by state law. So they can collect no more or no less of the amount of the fee or fine. The law does not allow for the extra CC processing fees. Here you MUST may CASH for anything to do with your drivers licence. The law specificity calls for cash only.

NJ DMV used to be a horror show. You could be in there for 3 hours sometimes . I will say that it is a lot better these days if you choose the right one.

That's how a bureaucracy works. They have to put up with stupid silly dumb shit, so why shouldn't you? One person shits their pants, then by golly we all gotta wear diapers. When I was in reception battalion in the .mil, even before Basic Training, we had to stand up and go to Parade Rest whenever a non commissioned officer entered the area we were in. It got to the point if a sergeant was getting out of his car a block away minding his own business, some lunkhead would scream "Parade Rest!!! " and everybody hopping up. It's a conditioning thing. Nobody is allowed to think for themselves, make a distinction or exception to the rules, because long ago the people who would or should ordinarily be fired go into management positions.

Our local DMV is pretty good, reasonably quick and organized and friendly enough.
