Wow! You're making me regret not buying Mr. Hamby's '56 delivery all of those years ago. It was untouched up the alley from me and I just couldn't pull the buy off. Beautiful tribute sir.
Actually the original car had a Pot metal NHRA plate surround on it. He still has it but it's seen better days, needs repaired.
Off to our local car show...check out the cool hydro gate water slide decals George sent. They were pretty delicate, but I managed to get them on mostly in one piece...pieces like a puzzle actually.
Thanks Tim, Looks like a shorter tire is in order for the front, so for now, we'll get some tires ordered and hopefully we'll get to test before the Meltdown drags. Our local track has a no prep grudge race day July 10th. and that looks like our first chance to test. Ready or not, we're going to the Meltdown.
Springs are staying in. I like the way it sits and it gives us some front end travel that we're going to need. We have George's approval. Keep in mind, we built a tribute car and not a replica. There's a difference in my book. We wanted to build something that resembled a car that may have run in the 60's with some modern components so we could hit some nostalgia races along with a few bracket races. We couldn't have picked a better car to build a tribute to. Georges support has been phenomenal. We did the rose version for two reasons. One, I just plain don't like the color blue, and this is my car. Two, even though in the early stages George suggested we did the blue version, we knew Scotty still has the original car and plans on doing his in blue. We could have mixed up paint like George did back in the day, but I wanted a coded color that I could buy off the shelf in case we ever needed to spot in something. So the color is what it is, and I like it and that's what really matters. It is a plus that George approves of the color.
I love it! Dunno about having it "coded" ROFL! It was a mix but great ya got it for replacement/touchup! I am NOT a fan of the color Blue either! My father on the other hand LOVED IT! He was a big fan of GM Catalina blue in the 70's.
While looks for Jr. stock photos came across these of the original. Tokyo Rose L/SA 69 nationals cl*** winner Looks like some paint work going on.
It's the LOWER photo that is the "original" car, and after the towing accident. The UPPER photo is a later version of the same car, but repainted blue. The photo of the repaired car at the strip, after the towing accident, they were't originally going to let them run the car in the repaired mode, but relented. Rules!!! I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
The Pictures of the original found online were totally responsible for ID'ing the original car. Long process of detective work and searching and phone calls. VERY long story ***ociated with that I can tell you. But those pics confirmed it.
As Tim noted in an earlier post that we would need to notch the frame for clearance for the ball joint spacers. We had a nice trimmed notch, but when we aligned the front end, it threw everything out of wack and I needed to do some more t******* to get back the clearance. Aint pretty, but it will work. Just ****oning everything up and checking things over. We'll make our first p***es down the race track tomorrow in preparation for the Meltdown drags in Byron next weekend.......to say it's been a thrash would be an understatement. Don't care how fast we are, as long as we come back home with everything in one piece for the Meltdown.......might even get some sleep next week. We'll post some numbers tomorrow.
No times to report, we got rained out. The good thing is we're all loaded up and ready to go for next weekend so no more thrashing this week. Looks like the Meltdown will be our maiden voyage.
Mike made it down the track earlier today at Meltdown. No drama, no fireworks, just a clean, easy p***. Raw video below from the stands (just from a cell phone). Congrats Mike!
Thanks for video and help this weekend Eric! Three runs yesterday. A lower first gear in the ****** should help it get going off the line better. 12:54 12:48 12:52
Very nice! Here's something that's always bothered me; why so many "photographers" right behind the guard wall? I mean, they have telephoto lenses, and don't need to be so close. SIX of them detracting from the action. I want to see the cars, not some middle aged, pasty white legs guys, wearing clothes that belong on 20 somethings. OK, that's off my chest. What gears and trans are in the car? There's a set of Stahl, Tri-Five, fenderwell headers on E-Bay.............for $1200.00! They are nice just the same. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Might be whoever BOGARTED one of the 2 sets that were for sale 2-3 years ago. Scott was watching and they said they had 2 sets so he called and BOTH were spoken for by the same person! they went to the Jr stock meet that year. he was bummed.
Tim, We ran a couple 45's today. All in all satisfied with the performance for what it is. The powerglide has a 1:76 low...dependable but 1.70 60 foot is the best we could get out of it and that's with a 5:13 in the rear. All in all a good weekend and no busted parts. The Meltdown guys do an awesome job and put on a heck of a show. We're not staying for Sunday so it's off for home in the morning. And Butch thanks for the heads-up on the Stahls, but I think the ******s are fine for our intentions. And to everyone's thumbs up and well wishes here and at the Meltdown, Thanks! We had a blast this weekend. It's a lot more fun beating on the car at the race track than beating on the car in the garage.
