When I was 16 years old, in 1956, I watched Bill Hines sling lead and here it is 50 years later and I am still watching him sling lead. He is incredible at 85 years old!
This was a good one. We have a lot of whining about how bad these TV shows are, but this was as good as it gets for me.
The DeRosa's, Bill Hines, and Darryl Starbird, and a new respect for Dennis McPhail.
When I watched Hines the first time, he was putting the lead on the original 1951 Ford coupe, "Lil Bat"

  9. That was just good T.V. !!!
McPhail, Hines, Starbird, DeRosa, James and several others all had good input on this one...
Hey, Dennis post some insight on this kustom build up.
What did that motor go into after it left the garage?!?

Why didn't they let me be on that one- I had to build a gay minitruck! HAHAHAAHAA!!!!

Congrats guys! And I can tell u one thing- Darryl is awesome to work around! He's on the All Star build team that airs June 12th.

Watched it a 5, gonna watch it again at 8. Great stuff. Only complaint, too short. I don't want to see 20 seconds of Hines doing lead work, I want to see like 2 hours. They need to do like a 3 hour version on DVD.

I watched it wide-eyed. It was amazing to see all these awesome fabricators on one build. Sweet results too!! I've been wanting to actually SEE someone sling lead but I've never gotten the chance.

Great show! Am I crazy or were they gonna put Pontiac split bumpers on it? At the end it had a stock front bumper. Did I miss something?

    Awesome build.

Watched the first few minutes with McPhail's younger son before he ran next door to watch it with his dad!

I am truly amazed at how much work was done each day. I was exhausted after just watching it!

    Great job. :D

yea the paint kinda ****ed i was so hoping for a sweet fade away or something other then flat. The idea of the sectioning was wild i have never heard of any thing like that. but then a carson top. never really liked those for some reason. but over all the car was bad *** and the stance was dead on.

I loved watching the show...not too hot on the design ...I just didn't really like the side profile and the door-tops and dip...just a little too much going on for me....but then again it was built in a week!

i didnt like how the tops of the doors came out, the paint ruined it for me. it was a good show either way. even Jimmy White (hemi coupe) came out in the show.

  26. Nice for a 6 day build, especially considering it probably would fetch the 100K the auction guy offered at the end. I thought maybe the doors didn't line up right with the hood, and I noticed they only showed one close shot of it where you could see that. My guess is maybe that's why the flat paint job - if it needs tweaking, it can be done and spotted in.

Good to see a good crew that knows their stuff, too, I was able to watch about half of it plus the end and it looked like it went smooth. No drama like on the show that follows it.

Heck in a one week build you can't nitpick every little thing.. maybe with the 4 weeks Boyd gives his crew, you could nitpick... (lol) ....

The only thing I don't care for in the reshape of the doors and quarter tops is in the artwork they always look nice, but on the car they don't have time to compensate for the way the body is wider the lower you cut it. It ends up looking funny compared to the drawings. I had a similar idea for one of my own stillborn projects and never came up with a satisfactory solution of how to resolve that problem.

My personal favorite part of the show was how they overdubbed "Jimmie White's" voice on the phone.....I've never been able to understand why DeRosa ground the entire body down with 24 grit though.....there was Genius in the top that was constructed by John Aiello, although you didn't see any of those details....... Jeff and I did actually accomplish heavily C notching the rear frame and the bags were working. ......They didn't show Gibbons taking the pencil from my hand while I was drawing..it would be fun to take a guitar while he was playing...... they did show thw FTW on the knuckles though....the doors were an awful idea. at first there was an even more radical dip in them....I just thank God that Starbird and Gibbons were there to help me with the design of the car......I have no clue as to where the paint scheme came from.....or who had the monumental task of straightening out the body.....The build was taped in September, the challenge was taped the weekend of Austin......It was an honor to work with Aiello, Myers, Starbird ,James and those other guys from California......Starbird is an amazing man to watch work ....any other questions?......
