The previous title was a little vague. Thanks.

Are you referring to the dark grey in the rendering in post #138? I'm confident that it would look terrific in that color scheme, but I've had a huge yawn from nearly everyone who's seen it. That response, together with the huge number of production cars that are on the road these days in that kind of anthracite grey, has me looking at a bunch of alternate colors. Luckily it'll be close to a year before I have to make a final color choice!

edit: I just realized that you have a dark grey '40 sedan. Well, I really like your color choice too! Thanks.

It's not as heavy as I thought, only 26 lbs.

We've been sanding and polishing our fingers to the bone. It's looking pretty shiny now. We'll get it back on the car for another look tomorrow.

Super nice Tony...I can appreciate all the work.

  12. I may be a Plymouth guy, but that Ford is really looking super. Have enjoyed the
thread so far. Thanks for the running commentary and good pics. How about one
of those darkish "orange-y" shades that would blend with a tan top better than a
    grey.

I have given that some thought -- it was actually one of the first colors I considered -- but I'm in a different place now. Here's an early color study from very shortly after I bought the car five years ago:

    Hey Tony

How about something like Citrus Green? Or something like that? I think yo know where I am going with my colors. I think the car deserves a bright or deep rich color to really show off the elegance of the car.

I think the back of the bumper is going to have to be polished.

Paul, the Citrus Green is a little too perky for me. In the months since we last discussed colors in this thread, I've considered more than a dozen different directions. Sometimes I'm in "What would Edsel do?" mode, and two of the colors I like are ones that he actually used:

At other times, I concentrate on colors that haven't been used much on customs, and these seem like ones that Edsel might have chosen:

...and at still other times, I think about the time and effort invested in this car, and decide that it deserves something with a little more "look at me" quality. The first of these is pretty close to the brown you suggested back in post #143:

The last one is the hot flavor du jour for me at the moment: it's very uncommon, the shade would compliment the car's shape nicely, and it's not so flamboyant that Edsel would turn away.

There's still about a year until we have to buy paint, though, and I'll probably change my mind two or three times before then.

Thanks for your interest in all of this.

Sounds like the can of metal polish contained some worms. Think we'll have to plate the bumper brackets too, now?

My turn to gush. Stunning. Exceptional. Mind-blowing.

Don, you are to body mods what El Polacko is to chassis mods. You are an artist.

Tony & Don, y'all make quite a team. Thank you for sharing the entire process.

I actually have another idea for the bumper brackets that I'll bounce off of you on your next visit.

I like the color on the Fiat but I love the last one you posted. I think you nailed it there.

Man I love the color of that '36 as well and was thinking of something similar for my truck if I fail in my attempt to figure out the Ayala's lime gold color that I really want to use. Do you know if it is a custom color Tony?

May want to have another look at the colors used on Edsel's roadster, very tasty.
Your car will clearly be as special - wonder if they did any that we haven't seen pictures of?

I spoke to Jim Thompson, who owns the '36. He told me that it's a color he found in a DuPont book of fleet colors.

There were (at least) a dual-cowl model A phaeton, the '32 boattail, the '34 speedster with two different front treatments and two colors, a kind of English-looking '35 that eventually inspired the Jensen, and his prototype Continental convert. I'm sure there were some custom T's done to Edsel's direction, and undoubtedly some custom Lincolns before the Continental. All except the '32 were quite nice.
