Looks really great Don and Tony.
The shortened trunk is now very nicely in balance with the rest of the body.
    Very classic lines.

Tremendous amount of work, very well done.

The mock-up and visuals were essential.

    Great job!

Thanks to all for the kind words.

You bet. The Photoshop work at the beginning was driven by my experience as a designer. It indicated that the end result could look good enough to justify the effort. It took several iterations to move it from "not bad" to "wow, that's exciting!" I'm very grateful to John Vernon and Rik Hoving for all that work.

The changes to the top, which was the whole deal when I began, turned out well. When the new top looked right, though, the body looked tubby by comparison. Sectioning, raising the wheel arches, and stretching the wheelbase were all necessary steps to getting the whole thing to look right.

Once the side view looked good, it became the blueprint for the whole task, and is what we still refer to for details of dimension and proportion.

All the mockup work is at Don's initiative. He invents ways to model details of the car's appearance, and will adjust them multiple times as necessary to get it right.

This is going be one of those cars that end up with the label "iconic". It's one of a kind, subtle, yet extensive modifications make a head turner long before its finished.

It's going to be one beautiful car.

    Don is an artist....

Wow. It's striking from both angles. Nice work, fellas.

  14. Yeah ... This is one project I'm really looking forward to seeing finished! Tony is a master of subtlety and nuance!

As for the craftsmanship, the artistry is definitely obvious.

Visited Mr. Dillard today. He would be posting an update, but his computer is lunched, so I'll show a few progress pictures on his behalf.

This view summarizes most of the new work: rear bumper, taillights, gas door, hub caps:

The other end, out in the daylight and with hubcaps on for the first time:

Ron Cole was good enough to lend us his '40 coupe for a few comparison photos:

Yes, the hood droop will be corrected.

It looks great! The comparison pictures really hit it home on how different the two are.

The Studes are repops by Dick Falk. They're quite nice, and priced about like real ones. Plating is necessary either way.
