So “Pappy” is happy. But is “that Hot Rod Lincoln” still around?

I have about 26 years of sobriety (thank God!) and I often say I might have amounted to something had I given up drinking earlier. I know I get a lot more done now that I don't get thirsty when it's 5:00 somewhere.

Alcohol is the lubricant of life, but if you overfill with it you will have problems.......
I hardly drink any more. No need. I am happy and content with my life.:)

Proudly - 26 years of sobriety. Every thing I involve myself in, has always been to the extreme.
I always had to (fill in the blank) more than everyone else.

While I still drink I have never let drinking be a controlling factor in my life. Partially because for a lot of years I had limited funds and I could afford a car magazine or beer and still have the magazine in my collection. The other part is that I have had too many family members who have had alcohol control and mess up their lives over the years and several friends. A brother and sister who are recovered alcoholics and having had to deal with my late mother's drinking that included ruining just about every family gathering for several years and whining after we left a birthday party for my then six year old great niece that "they didn't have anything to drink there" although my niece had Tea, lemonaid, coolaid and punch to drink.

I’ve heard it said that it takes 7 days for a single beer to be out of your system….that means the one I last night should be out of mine on my 94th birthday…..I’m currently 80….

I can only say that after burning bridges for nine years, I was prayin' to get out of the mess.
I was taken to a rehab, and sober ( not just dry ) by the time I was 30.
Life got so much better without it.
From the first to the last load, no question of was it a controlled activity.

I was asked several years ago by a few of the younger engineers at the firm I worked at "how do you afford all those cool old cars you have?" I told them, since I never drank alcohol my whole life, it was a simple math problem. I asked them "how much do you spend a week on alcohol?" They agreed on average about $100 a week. 100x52 is 5200 a year, times 30 years is $156,000...

I am super proud of anyone that quit. Everyone's biology is different. Some people get hooked alot easier on things than others. Both my grandfathers were alcoholics.

I have the same attitude to smoking . I quit smoking a packet a day habit in June 1982 when they were $1.08 a packet.
Now they are $37.41 per packet.
If the price increase was linear ,it would be an average medium price of $19.24 [it's actually been over $30+ for the last 20 years]
    $19.24 x 365 days x 42 years = $295,000 which would buy a good Ferrari

I didn't mean this to be a post about me qutting. Was meant to be about 21 years of knowledge, hot rods (a few bitchin' customs, too), friends and anything else related to the HAMB. But thanks guys...It hasn't been an easy thing to do but I'm doing it.
    Now back to hot rods!!
