Man, haven't been here since 08! OK, got a old school 51 chev cpe in body shop being fitted/prepped for paint. Satin black, gloss black dash, minimal stainless, wide whites with gloss black wheels and of course black interior with 64 buckets. Too much black? Also whats your take on the Firestone Cheater Slicks for driveability? Heres some pics of the almost rust free start. Thanks guys, great site to just kick back and read.
PM Chris Larson, 3Deuce40 here on the HAMB. He had a Chevy Coupe set up just as you describe, am sure he still has pics of the car. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand woirds. Johnnie.
I see a line of cars and they are painted black With flowers and my love both never to come back I see people turn their heads and quickly look away Like a new born baby it just happens every day... You can never have too much black !
Thanks, I guess thats what I wanted to hear. Sometimes ya kinda start doubting your own plans. The car should be pretty killer, 550 hp, t-400, 9", CE frt/back, no radio, wipers, air, or fancy electric crap! Just something to have fun in! I'll post some more as it gets completed. See ya.
.....Can't go wrong with black.......You're going to look super cool in it..With all that horse power in that Chevy....you will have to learn to drive slow ......so you can see all the thumbs up when you drive by....keep us posted...
White wall tires, red wheels, chrome/stainless beaty rings and spider caps, understated, yet elegant, and screams HOT ROD! www.highspeedmotorsports.com
Don't think you can have too much, as long as you offset it with something else. Sounds like your combination is just right. I'm currently having my '32 Ford 5W Coupe painted with PPG Crystal Black (has just a touch of silver pearl) and using Toredor Red on the dash and window garnish moldings. Plus lots & lots of Chrome! Good Luck with your project.
Okay, first off, let me start by saying good luck with your car whatever you decide to do with it, it sounds like a great project. But I have to say, assuming that you really want opinions and not just approval, in my humble opinion black is as cool as it gets, but satin black has been done to death. Go the whole hog and gloss it! Paul
i like it. I’d have the axles, springs, spindles, driveshaft, tranny and engine gloss white though
If you don't like it when done you can always paint the wheels and add some pin striping to make a difference. A friend just sold a 50 ford that was painted all dark blue when he bought it. He changed the wheels to red and the car looked much different. Little changes can make a big difference.
View attachment untitled.bmp Kinda wish I still had this. I know Fivewindow Johnnie really digs the Chebby's!
Don't paint the exterior satin black, you'll be sorry - honestly. It only looks good the first few days. If you accidently spill gas or bird crap on it there is no way to polish the stain out. If you are going to go through the trouble, you will enjoy gloss black much more. Everything black would look real nice, especially with stainless steel accents. If anything, I would Scotchbrite the stainless for a richer brushed finish look on that.
Thanks for the link Bonesy. Wicked50, it will be 2 part paint so it'll last or perform like normal paint. I know its been done to death but I'm tired of caring for the shine. This cars for beatin on and havin fun at the track, the next in line is 51 convertible that will have the shine! Thanks guys.
He beat me to the exact same though and when you go to an event like Billetproof satin/flat black cars tend to get lost in the crowd of other satin black cars. Way too much "me too, I wanna be in the club" look. Even over here in the Yakima Valley I wouldn't run cheater slicks on any car I drove on the street on a regular basis. Unless you want to watch weather reports and make sure that there is no rain in the forecast for the net week before venturing out of the garage, Cheater slicks in Puyallup are asking for a ride home on a rollback with a bent fender if you really intend to drive the car anywhere on a regular basis. Great for trailer queen pro fairground rigs though. I've been in the bar ditch three times with my 48 when I had N50's with good tread on them on the back and wide tires love to hydroplane in cloudbursts.
Mr48, good points. It won't be seein a trailer as long as it'll run but it probably won't see too much rain either. I'm thinking maybe the bfg's with the wide whites. I can throw real slicks on for the track, as I read a thread about so so traction with the old style cheaters. I just want it back home so I can get to it!
