I totally agree. In fact I think F5000 is the only way to save open wheel racing in America since the civil war between CART and IRL destroyed it.

While those guys killed each other, NASCAR took up whatever slack they left behind.

I can't see going head to head with F1 technologically so make the open wheel cars hairy and fun to watch. And the cars look awesome -You can see the motors, headers, injector trumpets, suspension -all the things we love about hot rods.

    Rules:
    1. Front & Rear Wings limited by area to make 'em small and keep the cars loose
    2. NASCAR type small blocks with no traction control, fly by wire throttle or any other driver aides. Mechanical fuel inj. maybe.
    3. Limited overall width to encourage p***ing
    4. Steel brakes to encourage p***ing
    5. There are no other rules

Have just stumbled on this thread, WOW!!!

Formula 5000 is just the bomb, it was great back in the day.....
but now the cars are reliable, and generally last the race distance!

Was searching for Boss 302 '5000s, the vast majority were Chebby as everyone knows.

And with the Cross Boss and Autolite Inlines......1425cfm each carb!!!

    Just beautiful.

    Thank you for posting. Rod
