I decided to disassemble my sander for cleaning and inspection. Can you instruct me on the propper orientation of the gears for re-assembly?
Seeing that the gear in the center is offset to one side the pad will only drop into place one way. Think “go, no go”.
You could probably take the Sears (R.I.P.) model number and google it and the owners and possibly the parts manual will come up. This might help you. Can I bitch for a minute about the death of Sears?? I need some new sockets and wish I could stop at Sears and buy good old Made in USA Craftsman’s. End of rant.
It may not help much since it's kind of small and blurry, but there is an exploded parts diagram at the Sears Parts Direct website: https://www.searspartsdirect.com
You are right there is a lot of manuals on line for craftsman stuff. Not to long ago I got some craftsman tools replaced at Lowes, ace hardware sells craftsman tools also but I have not tried to replace any there. The quality not the same as old craftsman stuff.
Standard IR design, I'll try to remember to look at mine tomorrow, send me a PM if my response time gets too long. The dot on the gear has some relevance, but I haven't had mine apart for 2 or 3 years. I also just pull the top cap on mine and oil it there, which helps some if they have a lot of wear.
If it is like the one I took apart a while back; center the drive gear in the middle of it's rotation and put the board back on in the center of it's travel. Hopefully it works the same as the one I had.
I believe I have found a pdf file (although for Ingersol Rand models) that explains the process. Thank uou.
That 875 source code is Florida Pneumatic. I think they're still around and may have the info you need. edit: If it's like most, it is a knockoff of an older brand, but not necessarily identical.
First, before disassembly, center the slide. Pull the side plates off, but don't let the slide just drop off, carefully lift the body off the slide. Now, do not move the pistons, because they are actually offset, and don't need to be moved. If you pull the piston gears out, be careful on reassembly not to move the pistons, and those gears will have a tooth pointing straight down. The valve gear has timing marks, line those back up, reinstall the slide and you should be good to go. If you have moved the pistons, it will take some trial and error, at least it does here, to get them back in proper position. A pain in the ass, but not too big. Be careful with the screws, start them all before hand tightening, or break out the cordless and take your chances. Good Luck!
